Hey guys, Is there a known gas can that fits perfectly in the standard "handsome boy" under seat bucket? I was looking at this one, I think it will fit: www.amazon.com/Eagle-UI-10-FS-Galvanized-Gasoline-Capacity/dp/B0002YW4USI measured it, but the height might be a tight fit with the way the seat/carb cover is shaped. I used to have a 1.25 gal red plastic container from Wal-Mart that I sat on its side, but the new spring-loaded safety valve broke, and I'm not going back! Any other suggestions appreciated!

howdy, it seems to me there are definite safety concerns with carrying fuel under the seat if i were to do that, i would want a bottle designed for that. the only place i have considered that was on my trip from bend oregon to burns which is about 130 miles with no fuel. then i would have probably mede sure to carry it away from just over the top of the spark plug and wires which it would be in the underseat storage. stuff happens!
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Yea, that's why I was looking into the steel Eagle safety can... just not sure if it will fit.

I had the floorboard tank on my handsome/vintage bike and had considered adding the bucket and underseat tank like you have as the 1.3 gallons capacity when riding over 45 mph only got me about 50 or 60 miles between fillups which had me fueling up 2 or 3 times a week. If you took a ride out in the rurals with only a 50 mile range you could easily find yourself pushing the bike quite a ways to make it to the next gas station. We also have some 20 mile causeway bridges here that if you misread the tank and it went to below half full after just entering the point of no return where you could turn around could leave you stranded out of gas before you reached an exit ramp past the end of the bridge to get to the next gas station.
Many will use the stainless steel gas bottles which are quite a bit tougher than the plastic cans to have a margin of safety so they don't end up pushing their bikes to the next gas station.

First of all, when you want to carry fuel in the underseat compartment, connected to the fuel lines, chances are that the fuel of the top tank will drip into the bottom tank. So you'll need blowback valves to prevent that. Second, the temperature underseat is quite high. Not high enough to combust the gasoline, but high enough to degrade fuel quality drastically in a short amount of time. If you just want to carry containers to fill up the gas tank, why not get a 1/2gal gas can, like this: or this: And put it in the glove compartment, or tie it up on the floor board?
