So I added the exhaust, but the paper they included said that I need to secure the muffler somehow. Any recommendations as to how to do this? The bracket they included doesn't reach anything nearby. It doesn't vibrate and it's lighter than stock, so hopefully I can ride for a while without the bracket. I also added the scoop! Used self-tapping screws and tried to fit it along existing lines to look as clean as possible. Other mods include the kevlar belt and 5g sliders from Scrappy., and the windscreen. I'm not getting the rev boost that I was getting with 4g rollers. I seem to have good response and power, and my top speed was there, just slower acceleration now. What gives? Should I readjust my a/f ratio again? It seems like I had faster revs with 4g rollers and a stock exhaust with holes drilled. Again, I think the power is there, just doesn't climb as fast. The windscreen has a logo printed on it. How do I remove it without damaging the clear plastic?

[replyingto=paulgendek]paulgendek[/replyingto]I wouldnt ride without the bracket- there is another member on here now that is dealing with what will probably happen. The exhaust studs are crap and will easily break- leaving you with a headache. Are these the only things holding your exhaust on? If so I wouldnt ride it at all until you secure it (somehow). As far as the lower acceleration- that's the price you pay for heavier rollers. Try mixing the 4 and 5g rollers to get effectively 4.5g. Just install them 1 4g then 1 5g then 1 4g etc. Or get sliders- they kind of offer the best of both worlds. Remember- get 1g lower than you need with sliders, though. If you're running 5g rollers 4g sliders would be similar.

I have 5g sliders now. I was told to get 1g higher in sliders, since I was using 4g rollers.
Check the pic above. The pipe is attached with brackets. Just not the muffler.

[replyingto=paulgendek]paulgendek[/replyingto]I have always read that you should go 1g LIGHTER with sliders to get similar performance to rollers. e.g. 5g rollers and 4g sliders SHOULD behave similarly. Can't confirm it but I have read it in numerous places and a lot of online retailers say the same thing.

Mo from Scrappy said otherwise. Hmm, will have to investigate...

Looks GREAT! But, no, PLEASE don't ride it without attaching the bracket to something (something that's part of the swingarm/motor mount) NOT the frame. Remember the exhaust must move with the engine. The muffler exerts TOO much leverage on the header, and just a few bumps could break the studs in the head, or worse. You should be able to run a simple piece of bar-stock or aluminum angle stock to a solid mounting point somewhere... It's best also to use a 2-point mount so the mount itself won't move up and down. That's too nice a system to risk breaking something... Anything to relieve the leverage the weight of the muffler exerts on the header. Once you get the variator and carb, etc. dialed in, you're going to love that setup! Ride safe, Leo in Texas PS: I noticed in your pix that your header DOES appear to bolt up to a solid hard-point. If so, you could do a "triangle" with two straight bars from the muffler-clamp to the "hard-point" and, to the header mount to stabilize it.I took the liberty of "Photoshopping" your picture, with a crude little "how-to" on that triangular mount... Maybe something simple like that would work for you... If you mounted the bars BEHIND the clamp and header tab, AND painted them flat black, they'd almost disappear. Just an idea to play with... REALLY simple, requiring only a hacksaw, drill and a couple of nuts and bolts. About a "2-beer job" I'd estimate... LOL! STRONG, too.image hosting websites

[replyingto=oldchopperguy]oldchopperguy[/replyingto]Nice job Leo!,, I was thinking he could even turn the can clamp upside-down and slide it back closer to the axle nut,,then utilize the swing-arm by drilling a hole and adding a small bracket like yours,,may need to put a little Z bend in the bracket though...this way hed be getting the tail weight off that can,,thats whats gonna kill the pipe at that cheap ebay bracket.

My header has 2 brackets too! What does that mean? I can't see the other header bracket, but it's purpose is anybody's guess... Probably to simply give you more possible choices of mounting. Many setups don't even mount the header except at the head, but those, like mine, require REALLY solid muffler mounting to prevent damage at the head from flexing. I think there are more variants in these exhausts than there are scooters...? Nah... Maybe? LOL!Just get it all buttoned down solid, and it will be fine. You have several different possibilities here. Just do it the way that fits your tools and skills best... That's part of the fun(?) of these scoots! I was fortunate that my Xingyue had 2 MONSTER muffler mounts welded to the swing-arm. That allowed a simple aluminum bar bolted to the modded original muffler clamps, and then to be bolted to the jumbo swing-arm mounts to lock everything in place. Those mounts are like 1" steel tube with giant nuts welded into them! The rest of the scooter should be THAT stout! screenshot pcpc screen shotSometimes you get lucky! Since your scoot has no shock on the exhaust side, you have a lot of "wiggle-room" to play with mounts... Your setup is certainly prettier than mine! Can't beat factory chrome with carbon-fiber! But mine has a really sweet "cackle"... LOL! At that "strut yo' stuff" walking speed in the parking lot, around 3,500 rpm... right where the cam fights with the expansion-chamber just a little, it sounds almost like (be still my beating heart) a vintage Cushman flattie with a milled-head and 3/4 cam. Ah, the memories... the MEMORIES! Makes me long for the days of Beaver Cleaver and Ricky Nelson... But that's another story. Now, where did I put my propeller-beanie? ;D Sincerely, Leo (waxing old-school) in Texas

I adjusted the contrast and saturation of his image and the header has a tab on it just before the muffler. Still, the can is heavy and should have some support.
