Take the plug off and use a DVM set to continuity beep across the two terminals and if the meter beeps or shows ZERO ohms while switch is in the OUT position you know the problem lies down stream and the switch is still good,,that way you dont shotgun a good switch....9 out of ten its the switch though and not a broken wire/connection,,but I just like to test and learn things along the way by ruling things out ;D

DX If it IS the switch though, you can find them pretty cheap on eBay and other places.

Just be mindfull that if you go too cheap you may end up with a switch that will fail shortly after you install it.

It's just a little doobie screwed to the bottom of the lever assembly. --> www.partsforscooters.com/100-206__Rear__Brake__Switchi just had mine apart recently. If you're good at working with small things, they do snap apart and you can disassemble it and clean the contacts. Be warned though that it's maddeningly frustrating to get it all back together correctly.

Just be mindfull that if you go too cheap you may end up with a switch that will fail shortly after you install it. True, but... After replacing my left brake assembly (including the switch) as one unit, with THE cheapest bottom-feeder part I could scrounge off eBay, it was like "Mercedes Benz" parts compared to the factory parts... The original master-cylinder, lever and stop-light switch TRULY looked like they came out of a Chinese dumpster (after sitting there a few years...).Looking back on the factory parts I've ended up replacing (CDI, carb, coil, air-intake, headlights, seat, luggage-rack, plug, header, muffler, variator, entire rear disk-brake system...) I can't imagine even the worst-quality "repop" bargain-priced eBay junk seconds being as truly AWFUL as the original equipment parts used on these scooters. I'm not ragging on them... Just the way it is. We know it before we buy them, and are willing to wrench on them until they run right. That yields a scooter we can enjoy, for a third the price of even a Taiwan-made ride. Not a bad trade-off for us riders on a tight budget... But there IS a reason we can get a scooter for a grand from China, and nowhere else... ;D Leo (still learnin' to wrench that "Chineseium" metal without crumbling it) in Texas

Will a bad switch cause the brake light to stay on constantly? Something just didn't seem right & couldn't figure it out. I performed a basic bench test on the switch & it kills the circuit when it's pressed in. The odd part was both wires connected to the switch were hot with juice regardless if the switch was on or off. I had to run a jumper wire from one of the terminals directly to the socket in order for the brake light to turn on when the brake lever is pressed.

It took me a few minutes as well to realize that it works in reverse. When installed the switch plunger is normally pressed in. When you squeeze the brake lever the plunger is allowed to move out connecting the circuit.

[replyingto=oldchopperguy]oldchopperguy[/replyingto]I noticed that also Leo,, The cheapest ebay switch I could find is MUCH better quality than the one that came with it,,I dont understand that at all,,but I deal with chinese stuff quite often,,even when ordering motorized bike parts,,the aftermarket stock cheap stuff is better quality,,guess the factory that makes the scooters/bike parts makes there own switches(cheap junk)then other factories make parts only that are cheap but better built Really its hit and miss Im sure Tom

Yup! There IS a reason why even Taiwan-made scoots cost 3-times more than Chinese-made scoots. Thankfully, the Chinese usually seem to be able to make the engines, CVT trannies, etc. to a "serviceable" level. At least with some tweaking, we can get them to be pretty reliable. I've ridden mine now for five years... Not bad for the money!
Ride safe,
Leo
