I moved my coil closer to the plug and shortened the wire by half I also replaced the stock wire with a piece of amp wire it is much thicker than the cheap wire it came with. I have not rode it yet I doubt it will make a difference but shorter thicker wire has less resistance. I will post pictures if anybody else wants to try this. Attachments:

Thats a good idea,,just make sure that thicker amp wire can handle the high voltage of the coil,,Ive seen some of those really thick 10 or 8 gauge wires that are rated at 600v and our coils put out way more(12 to 20Kvolts)than that,,just keep an eye out for arching,,I know it will handle the amps,,just not sure if the insulation is designed to keep that much voltage inside.Myself I think I will try to use an 8mm coil wire someday.
BTW-Take note of how thick the insulation is around that plug wire...its that way for a reason.

I agree with Jerseyboy. When auto plug wires are rated by thickness, the core is usually the same diameter, but the insulation is thicker. The insulation is really important as it handles the heat, arching, and better yet, any interference. Not sure how old you are, but in the old days, cars were run without RFI plug wires. So, when the engine revs up, you could hear the interference in the radio speakers. Be careful about arching and heat. Not sure if interference would affect pick-up signal or CDI, but who knows.
Amp wires should be good for the power to the coil or power from the battery.

[replyingto=brandjur]brandjur[/replyingto]Id love to upgrade those small coil power wires also,,the junk clips that came with it need to go.

Also make sure you have enough play in the wire. I know the thicker wire is stiffer and now shorter so im courious how it will handle the movment between the engine and the frame?

Took it for a test ride. I could not tell any difference.

[replyingto=jeffery5568]jeffery5568[/replyingto]Get a nice 8.8 mm coil wire from Autozone,,even a 7mm quality wire and you will be good to go.

Is there anything wrong with the OML Platinum wire? That is the one I use, (the yellow one). This wire is bigger than the Ford Racing wires on my GF's dads 67 Mustang fastback. When I show people my wire coil/wire, they are kinda amazed!

I would say anything is better than stock. I just use what I have laying around.
