Howdy, Does anyone know what causes the Vino to rattle on acceleration? Let off the gas and it quiets down. Already checked the timing and fuel. Thought I would check with the experts before I started removing likely culprits. Its a 2008 with 1150 miles.

Video? Sound? Way too high tech for me! That's why I bought the Vino. Basic, old technology - like me.

R u sure its not coming from the exhaust? The headers on these tend to go bad and rattle like . Put some pressure against the header with your foot and give it gas. See if it quiets or stops the rattle.

[replyingto=geh3333]geh3333[/replyingto]Thanks geh3333, I checked the exhaust, brackets and header bolts. No luck. Its quiet on the stand but rattles while riding lt. It probably happens due to the suspension being compressed. I'll find it eventually.
Thanks again.

I know what it can be. I also had this happen. When you sit on the scoot the carb gets pushed down against the engine compartment this caused a rattle also on mine. If this is it u can find some thicker gasket material and line the top of the engine case under the carb. The crossbar will somtimes push the intake hose down which inturn will make the carb contact something either the engine case or possibly the crossbar.

My carb rattling drove me nuts, it took me a couple days to figure out what it was.

You have many moving parts so you will hear them move around instead it being silent . ALL two wheelers nuts , bolts and screws will get loose from vibrations and bumps so I like to go over mine every 2 months to keep everything snug . Roller variator weights do make a rattle sound which I thought was a crank bearing at first on my TaoTao but after listening on the CS with a stethoscope I could tell it was coming from the CVT instead of the engine . With more miles rollers will get flat spots from normal wear and make more rattle noise . I replaced my rollers at 5,500 in my Echarm with Dr Pulley sliders . They were still good with a hint of flat spots starting but after reading so many good things about sliders vs rollers I wanted to see for myself . I must say wow sliders are superior in every way ! Much quieter , last longer and perform better . I had 12g rollers and went with 12g sliders were sliders are often a gram less than rollers of the same weight . Takeoff was close to the same but man it had a much better power curve in acceleration and gained 5 MPH on top end . I replaced the belt 7,000 miles later with almost no wear on the sliders but variator guides had wear spots . Now at over 16k of miles it still a beast .
Maybe if you went 1 gram lighter in rollers it would ease the stress on the engine at take off . I have heard and seen where a weight or two came out of the variator and bounced around in the CVT casing

Thanks Guys, the engine loading possibility is interesting. It does accelerate quietly when accelerating downhill. Cruise rpms are way lower than my ch80. A set of sliders is on my list of upgrades.

I recently had the same noise. I found the strap around the fuel tank ha stretched a little and was making the rattle only when I was up to speed. I put a rubber spacer between the tank and strap- problem gone.
