Hey folks - I'm joining the asylum as a willing inmate tonight with my Elite 80, first scoot. I need a decently sized top case so I can stash a jacket, a helmet, and other bulky sundries that won't fit elsewhere. Anyone know if the Shad SH50 top case or any similar very large top case will fit on the existing rack of the scooter? Any recommendations otherwise? It doesn't have to colormatch or have a brake light kit, nothing hugely fancy.

[replyingto=domindart]domindart[/replyingto]Yeah, I've done some research, and Shad/Givi both claim that their top cases fit on all scooters that have racks and split the atom simultaneously - but given the sizes I'm not so keen about going to a local shop and buying one if the return policy isn't quite so bueno. Same for Revzilla and some Amazon sellers. By the time I've got the rack bracket mounted it's already no longer new and thus not returnable.
My objective is to be able to toss a normal jacket in the trunk and swap it out, leaving it in the trunk along with my helmet. Armor for the commute to the train station, coat for the walk to work.
Whatever I end up getting I'll photo up. Hopefully it'll help someone somewhere.

It will help me out a lot! I'm looking into them, just can't buy now. Know nothing about them but bigger the better I think but not too big that it weighs everything down I guess.
I like the idea you could change out your gear and store it there or under the seat.

Have you checked out Iron Pony Motorsports? They claim no refunds on closeouts, but when I ordered my jacket they said no problems if it wasn't right. And when I noticed almost a year later that it was missing an elbow guard, they sent one out.
Another store I've bought from is powersports4less.com. Of course in my case, there's a physical store the next town over. But they do have a pretty courteous return policy. Not sure if they'll have hardcases though--they really deal motorcycle and snowmobile gear. But worth a look.

Call the company or go to their web site and look up the dimensions of the base plate. If the plate is only moderately larger than your rack them you should be good. Posting the dimensions of the luggage rack on your 80 along with the dimensions of the case your considering would help get you a better answer. If you already have the measurments of the luggage rack when you call Shad they will be better able to advise you about their product.
Even if the luggage rack on your bike is a lot smaller than the base plate of that Shad case you can still get a piece of 3/16" aluminum plate big enough for the mounting plate and securely bolt that to the luggage rack.
Regardless of the bike you can put on a case big enough to deliver pizza's if you put your mind to it.

howdy and welcome to the forum. there might also be the possibility of saddle bags with fasteners that pass under the seat thus locking them except for the odd knife blade slicing them off.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Got the Givi and I can confirm 100% that it fits on the Elite 80! You gotta mount the mounting plate as far back on the rack as you can, because it levers into place from front to back. But once you do, it latches clean on.
The mounting plate is standard Givi: align where you want it to go, drop the bolt through the square washer, thread on the bracket and bolt at the other end, repeat 4x, tighten when aligned properly, mount, go!
It's definitely big but it doesn't really interfere with rear vision all that badly. There's a bulge at your keister section (I know it's not me because my bulge is my gut section ;_; ) but it has no issues with the stock mirrors.
Pictures to follow. It does look big but it somehow works, visually!

i have an elite 80 too. there is no under seat storage besides a few spark plugs. mine came with a dealer option box but wont even fit a helmet. i am not really a fan of boxes so i mounted a metal wire basket off a golf cart. works great. i have a small cable bike lock for my helmet and larger one for the scoot. locks on trunks are really a joke anyway so id rather them see i have nothing in my basket they want. i never stray that far from my scoot anyway. i always park in front of windows next to the front door of whereever im going.

Top case is the best bet to keep your stuff dry and free of vermin. Here you will need to worry about Hobo/Hunter/Recluse Spiders, lizards, Wasps or at times even snakes crawling into an open helmet or a pair of gloves left in a basket or finding you helmet full of water from our spontanious Tropical Rains.

I've got a E50 "Maxia" model on my big horse. It's an older model. Not sure if you can get this one anymore. 50 liters is quite a bit of space. As a proud? owner of a Givi box, I just wanted to offer my $0.02 and give you an idea what you're getting for the premium price. They're very well made luggage. They are quite heavy even empty, (as in "luggage"). They seal nearly airtight with no squeaks or rattles. The latch on mine is an external claw sort of arrangement that cinches the lid down tight. We struggle with it sometimes with the key. A thief would have to really work at it to get it open without a key. The "monokey" series boxes use one lock mechanism to either unlock the lid or push the button and the whole thing pops off the GIVI mounting plate for storage or lugging directly to your hotel room. What can you put in there? The oval-ish shape is a little tricky sometimes, but you'll figure it out. We can easily put two full face helmets plus some stuff. Or two heavy motorcycle jackets. Or a big gym bag and some miscellaneous stuff around the sides. You can cram a lot of stuff in there. Operational notes: Keep in mind that adding weight high up and far back makes a two-wheeler handle really badly. Even more so on lighter weight scoots. Also the boxes tend to vibrate and wiggle around just from their own weight, They bigger they are, the worse it gets. So you'll want to mount it as solidly as possible.
