So when I'm WOT, for a few miles my carb floods and pours gas out the filter. Now I only open the manual 20% and it seems to help..
My thoughts are that the jet may be too small and not eporting the gas as fast as it should.
I would like to put a good petcock bak on it. But think I need a 125-150 petcock to keep t from vrapping.
Tha manual I have on now is for a lawnmower :/ could it be allowing too much gas flow?

Sounds to me like the float valve. You need to lower it or replace it

imo you need to adjust the float but it seems weird that it only does it at WOT. so perhaps wait for more responses because i am new to these engines. Sounds to me like the float valve. You need to lower it or replace it dang it... i am slow at typing, lol.

Definitely check/replace float and float valve. Ensure that your float seat is free of debris as well. When's the last time you went thru your carb?
Possibly your needle is too high, also?

[replyingto=ej132]ej132[/replyingto]Your not adjusting your needle valve,,your adjusting your float height,,not sure how that's done on your carb,,on the ones I worked on you just bend the tab that pushes the needle in/out either way,,then measure your float height according to the SM specs.I would check your height first before bending anything...a little tweak here goes a long way.

Ya I did raise the needel a whyle bac, it was wide open, but I went up a notch, and I can go up one more to set it back to factory. I had a fealing that could be it, ill drop it tomoro.
Is their a petcock made that has a high flow rate? I ride too much for a manual. The petcock I have now won't dump enough fuel at wot, bc of the lack of vacume at wot.

[replyingto=tripper]tripper[/replyingto]Ok,,I thought we where talking about the brass needle valve that controls the fuel coming into the bowl(the one that goes into the needle guide Alley posted),,your talking about the CV needle that has the clips on it,,or can be shimmed to meter fuel on the main jet...my bad

That is NOT BAD Jersey, that happens as well but his case is it only happens at high rpms when his Diaphgram needle is all the way. Alleyoop

Would dropping the needle down past factory have any advantages? I'm noob, I just changed my 1st carb 2months ago, but I did rebuild my engien to 81:3cc ;D

Usually the needle is set in the middle slot, some needles have 5 slots and they come set in the middle slot. Some have 3 slots and again the clip is set in the middle. Dropping the needle down(Moving the CLIP UP) will feed it less fuel in the mid range and not rise out a little less at fuel throttle. But since you build your motor to 81 DID YOU CHANGE the MAIN JET and if SO what size MAIN JET did you put in? Alleyoop
