I just started rebuilding my 4t 50cc, but now I think I would like a 2t better. As long as accelaration is close to as quick.
I like the way they sound too!
what's the pros and cons in a nut shell ?

2T pro: - faster acceleration and top speed for same cc's - easier on maintenance (no engine oil changes, fewer parts) - Smaller and lighter engine - In most states a 49cc 2T can be ridden without special license, or in some states <50cc's don't even need to be registered/insured
2T con: - Oil mixing with fuel causing fuel cost to rise - Uses oil, more polluting (on a 4 stroke oil can get recycled) - Engine wears quicker usually due to it being driven @ higher RPMs - Usually fuel efficiency is 10-20MPG lower than 4T
I'm sure there are more things...
That being said, prices between Chinese 50 and 150cc's are minimal. The Chinese don't overcharge for putting a 3LBS heavier engine in their bikes like Americans do; so comparatively, a 150cc is faster, heavier, more fuel efficient, and cheaper in the long run, than a 50cc 2stroke, despite their $200 purchase price difference (that is, if your insurance does not go up).
A 150cc 4 stroke is also allowed to go on the highway. Even though a 2T 50cc might be fast enough to go on the highway (the legal minimum speed on the highway is 40MPH in normal traffic, the interstates is 50MPH), they are often not allowed, because traffic often goes faster (max legal speed on highway usually is 55MPH, interstate 65MPH; actual traffic on the highway is 60-65MPH, actual interstate traffic is 75-80MPH).

like prodigit said depends on what function you want, the 2t are quicker but less fuel efficient. If you want highway capability the 4t 150+ are great.
I have a modified 2t with a very tired 70cc engine which still keeps better speed then other stock 50cc 4t & 2t but the price is that I have too rebuild the bike more frequently. I really enjoy its pep and ability to get out of its own way.
if you go for the 50cc 2t look for one with the best acceleration rating available in your area... I ride a 08 derbi atlantis bullet which a stock one is quicker off the line then I but my scoot does 120km/h and holds 80km/h on most hills due too all the modification done before I bought it.

4t if you want to just have an easy commuter. 2t if you want to have a great time doing it.

hank is a guest now?.. well that sux...what did I miss?. Anyway he is right...2T's are quicker off the line with higher top speed. Just sold one and getting ready to buy a Adly. Bad side of 2T's is as prodigit said above....my gas mileage was less Also they are so fun to hop up..you just seem to inherently keep installing performance parts...taking a test ride...come back grinning....and buy more Hi Po parts....until yer broke... ;D Piston rings and cranks also wear faster than a 4T.. But man are they fun...

they are way better. i have had both and am much happier with my 2 stroke. seems like they really cheaped out on my 4 stroke as far as design goes my 2t has way more bells and whistles and about the same price as my old 4.

DX I've got a 4T and a 2T, the 2T is a much more expensive and higher quality brand though (2T is a Derbi vs 4T Tao Tao). The performance is comparable on both scooters but with the Derbi having a significantly higher top speed / gear ratio. The Tao Tao has an 83cc BBK and many mods though, the Derbi weighs at least 50 lbs more and is bone stock. Only downside is very poor fuel economy, I average around 55-60mpg on the 2T 49cc and probably 75-80 on the 4T 83cc BBK. Oil shouldn't be a concern, my 2T consumes it at about the same rate as some of the older cars I've owned, and actually with the frequency of oil changes on 4T scooters it's about the same there too.... but 2T oil is much more expensive than 4T. No mixing, my scooter as well as all the 2T's I've seen are oil injection and take care of that for you.

A 99 has a vertical motor. I would look for horizontal motor. Nothing wrong with a vert. Just a better selection of parts for a horizontal motor. The biggest thing on Zumas they are geared low.
