If I remember correctly AMF took control of Harley (in the 70's?) and promptly ran it into the ground. I think that's when Willie G. and a group of investors bought it back. ( and rebuilt both the bike and their name too.)

Hi spandi, I owned 2 AMF Harley's. I @&%$#@ Them. I loved & hated Them. They had there own drip pans. Now there gone I miss Them. LOL... Dave P.S. I use synthetic oil in every thing I own. INcluding my Deep fryer. Nothing like Chinese style fries are there?

After about 500 miles of pennzoil i switched to royal purple 10w 40 . This is a full synthetic. It is def worth running a synthetic especially in these engines. They should run slightly cooler with the synthetic. These are small air cooled engines anything u can do to lower the temp is a plus even if it is a very small change

If you're gonna use synthetic oil at least put in a magnetic oil screen cap and drain plug to grab all the metal particles .

After properly breaking in the engine " rings" you really shouldnt have anything as in metal shavings that should cause any problems. Non that a synthetic oil will cause. Also i think most know not to usr a synthetic to break in the engine.

Not that I'm recommending anything here, at least after break-in anyway, you should be able to use 10w30 and 10w40---either dino or synthetic, and not have any problems the first few thousand miles. If you say you're using this oil or that oil and haven't had any problems at... let's say 3,000 miles/kilometers--- doesn't mean a thing, IMO. Wait until you get to anything past 9,000 miles.... at least for the 50-80cc's. It's the long term, not the short term that matters---most of the popular weight oils will be just fine at that mileage, synthetic or not. If you have major problems at 3,000 miles, then something else is wrong, IMO. You should be able to use 5w30 and be fine at 3,000 miles. Remember it's the long term.
I think the quality of the parts is a huge factor.

Thats right if you star getting metal shavings in the oil in your higher mileage you prob have some other probs. And i wouldnt suspect the oil.

Sarcasm here, but we should be able to use vegetable oil and make it to 3,000 miles.
