Synthetic oil will lubricate clear up to its flash point of about 475 F. long after dino oil has turned to charcoal.

Haven't you heard? Synthetic oil makes Chinese engines EXPLODE!!!!!! It turned mine into swiss cheese!!! In all seriousness, if you ride it long and hard, these 50-72cc Chinese air-cooled engines aren't going to last 30,000 miles no matter what oil you use. That's my final conclusion, from my experience. I did have the magnetic bolt set, and used synthetic oil halfway through my second engines life---- can't say it lasted any longer than my first engine. It's not the piston, it's not the rings, it's the crank from my experiences. To many variables.

I doubt it was the oil. Like you said u cant run them to hard and expect them to last forever.

Should have used synthetic from the begining I used regular 10w30, and even 5w30, for most of my first engines life--- and the last 1/4 of the engines life was a synthetic blend. That was a 50cc and it lasted almost 15,000 miles(kilometers). Longer than any other engine I've had. EDIT: Now was it the oil or the displacement?? I've had 50cc, 63cc, and 72cc. IN THAT ORDER. 72cc lasted the shortest.

Your engine was probably pissed when it found out you were not givin it the good stuff when it was younger. It missed out in its youth

To be honest at this point its just a guess whay happened to it. The prob may have started before the synthetic. Also most gy6 engines state to use 10w 40

All the motorcyle shops around where i live mostly sell either 10w40 and 15w40 not saying they dont sell anything else but that is what they sell the most of.

Same here never any real leaks. I overfilled once and was blowing some out of the valve cover port.

I'd never put all synthetic oil in an aluminum block engine! Way too expensive! We're talking ALL synthetic? That's ~$50-60/gal, compared to regular synthetic (semi-synthetic) going over the counter for $20/gal?
Aluminum block engines are not worth that. Magnetic oil filter is useless on an aluminum block engine, as the majority of the particles (99% of the metallic particles) are aluminum, which is non-magnetic; and the other major pollutant in oil is carbon, which also is non-magnetic.
