Ok,, Well I finally had to remove most of my plastic today to check the valves,,and also spot an oil leak,,it took me longer to get the plastic off/on than do the repair. The Chinese use the cheesiest plastic(is it ABS??) screws, clips, and screw holders known to mankind,, I'm not sure how long the panels are going to hold up??
So I added washes to holes that looked like screws where pulling through on,,and went out to auto store to buy a pack of U clips and 6mm hardware,,cause i know they will come in handy soon!!
What do you guys do(besides zip ties ..lol) to improve the plastic cover installation process,,and keep it from falling off in the future,,i would like to hear some tips and tricks on the worst part of the scooter I have seen!!!

Hi Jerseyboy I think the best thing you can do is wax your scooter plastics with a auto wax that has UV protection..

[replyingto=larry001964]larry001964[/replyingto]Ok brother,, I will do that,,also treating the rubber with a silicone could help it from rotting,,I have some rubber sleeves on my mirror posts, and other grommets Id like to preserve so I already got myself a small brush,,then soaked it with a silicone protectant,,and brushed it heavily on all my rubber parts,,hope it helps.

those damn u clips or as advanced auto called them spring clips suck and somewhat expensive... for a pack of 3 they wanted 6.49 for them. I'm thinking to just go out grab some washers, nuts and bolts and secure all my plastics that way come this winter when i pull them all and paint and winterize the ol girl

Good idea,, When I put it back together,,I cut some old inner tube I had laying around and folded it in 2 or three,,then poked a hole in it,,I then put my 6mm bolt through and it gave me some cushion and vibration protection,,hopefully it will help save the plastic from cracking a little longer...

not a bad idea, could sleeve the tabs with the inner tube to protect it all the way around

When I got mine delivered, it had a couple rubber washers missing. Got some at Home Depot and it seems to prevent the cracking from vibration. And I use Pig Snot, or Lemon Pledge, every Sat. Attachments:

I buy used and broken scooters and fix them. Most of the time, the plastic is a broken up.
Some times I wonder what China makes worse... their plastic or their steel. The plastic becomes brittle and the steel rusts so easily.
Any way... Many times I have roughed up areas on the plastic pieces and rebuilt the part with fiberglass and resin. You have to really rough it up and get it clean though, or the resin won't stick.

I agree about Chinese screw/clip overkill. I counted something like 38 fasteners for ONE panel! I used clear silicone caulk on all the clips to cut down on the rattles.

What do you guys do(besides zip ties ..lol) to improve the plastic cover installation process,,and keep it from falling off in the future,,i I've heard of using Silicone, like the Home Depot style normally used for caulking. This is for the plastic panels' hardware. For Drivetrain parts that doesn't heat up too much (Variators, Clutch bells), Real Threadlockers is the way to go. On the Exhaust Header, I doubt threadlocker will be of any benefit, as it gets so hot that it should be past the threadlocker's melting point. I end up not doing any of that silicone stuff on the plastic panels anyways, because: (1) I get lazy, and (2) These Cheap-Skoots need to have their plastic panels on-and-off so often for maintenance anyways (carb cleaning, adjustment, etc). I only make sure to tighten them every time I do oil changes on the skoot. If you are missing screws and clips cuz they fell off, someone on EBay sells a bag of these Screws & Clips used on these Plastic Body Panels, for like $20 a bag.

Once I use silicone on the clips they STAY on. (through multiple panel removals.)
