Why not simply fill the tank at regular intervals, depending on how far you drive, every couple of days, or once a week.(the same day) Just don't let the tank go below 1/2, and you pretty much always have plenty of gas, and don't have to worry. I would not want to carry gasoline all the time. Use the space for emergency equipment or a flashlight or something.

Actually the real solution here is to fix/replace his faulty odometer and then he could ride with confidence...

Or, Fix the gas gauge. But if you dont want to spend the money, the answer is... Keep your tank full. It's as simple as that.

When Lake Geneva held Amerivespa last June, and we had group rides - say 100+ scooters, you know not everyone filled up at the same time, and can you imagine if all scooters pulled up to fill up at once, We would swamp a filling station. I've never run out, and I've had the gauge near the empty peg. My fuel economy isnt consistent - a group ride is much less WOT, than just ridding to and from work. I think the gauge is reasonably accurate, and the odometer is pretty close, but the speedometer is horribly in-accurate. I carried spare gas, in case anyone needed it, not just myself. Normally on my to/from work I do not have spare fuel. I had it only on longer and group rides.

You better be careful! In this day-and-age, homeland security might think you are a terrorist

Why not simply fill the tank at regular intervals, . This I went to the store to get a gallon on gas for my weed wacker with the scooter, the one gallon can fit easily in my top box. What a dumb idea. It sloshed a little in the top box, and even though it was just a mile, it is probably dangerous. Whatever little container will get jostled around, who knows when it might start to drip, and you don't want that happening when you are driving. I know it still takes a spark but....... Get a 2-5 gallon plastic gas can, keep it in the garage and just and just top it off every couple days if you can't keep the gauge working. And if you want to find a silly benefit out of this idea, you buy the five gallons when gas is low, and when it goes up, you are still running your scooter for weeks at the cheaper price.

Just get a 12" wooden dowel and fill your tank drop the dowel in and mark where it is full and then mark it every quarter down. That way you can check how much gas you have left anytime. Alleyoop

I think alley's and jwalz' ideas are the best.
Get a regular fuel can for the garage. Then check your gas tank every evening with your stick, and fill up from the can. Problem solved. You start each day with a full tank.
