does anybody carry a little extra gas with them for just in case? my fuel gauge malfunctioned on me so I replaced it then it happened again so Im not really sure how much gas I have In my 1 gallon tank just kind of have to guestimate so i started carrying around a 20oz powerade bottle for reserve but i guess it got too hot and expanded or something and started to leak so now im looking for something kind of small like that that i could safely carry some extra gas around in in case i run out and get stranded ill have a little bit to get me to the nearest gas station im thinking one of those little metal water bottles will work but i just wanted to get some suggestions from here on what to try first

Do you have a trip meter. Using this with a working knowledge of your average mpg is far better than any fuel gauge I have ever had on a motorcycle. Most of the ones I have had are quite wonky and vague...

I just fill up when it looks pretty empty.. I'll drive around for a couple days, if I go on a long excursion I'll check it and fill up, costs me $2-4

Hi No i do not And you should only use a container that is specifically designed for and approved to carry fuel or flammable liquids in I would not use a poweraid bottle or any thing similar Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

Aren't there safe containers of emergency "fuel" for just such an occurrence?

Just get a 1/2gal gas can. Better yet just keep an eye on the mileage and stop at the gas station every 50-60mi. My Tomos ST doesn't have a fuel gauge and that's how I plan not to run out of gas.

1/2 gallon gas can would be too big and stopping every 50-60 miles isnt the best idea for me either i usually stop every 30-40 50 tops and that wolfman primus fuel bottle was exactly what i was talking about just didnt want to spend $20+ on it anybody have any idea how big that thing is? it doesnt say

My gas gauge is sorta "wonky" too... LOL! My engine has a nasty habit of stopping when the gauge reads a little under 1/4 tank...
I've been thinking along your same lines. I just replaced my exhaust, and I'm thinking of maybe converting my original black-anodized muffler shell into about a 2-quart "auxiliary" tank. It could be mounted on the CVT side, and plumbed into the existing fuel line with a petcock. It could then be opened up if I run short, and would look fairly "factory" if done carefully...
I'd like to have a nice, fat reserve tank just in case...

I got a red 750ml SS water bottle last year. The cap seemed to be OK after several days in contact with gasoline, so I carried it in the saddle bag. I never used it. But as I started to get stuff organized for this season, I figured I'd better use and replace the old fuel. The cap did not want to budge. A weee bit of leverage and I got the cap off, with effort the entire length of the threads. The plastic has swelled. Now the cap wont go back in.
The Primus bottle looks good, especially with the holster. Though pricey. $45 for both.
I see the MadAss scooters with tiny tanks - they seem to always carry fuel in what appear to be red water bottles with a keyring carabiner with a FUEL label on the side.
