Not a lot of great movies out right now. We saw The Boy Who Would be King (Not to be confused with The Man Who Would be King, Starring Michael Caine and Sean Connery). Its an OK movie. Kid friendly. I would have have rather stayed home and watched the old Caine/Connerymovie on NetFlix. "The Man Who Would Be King" is one of my favorite movies of all time - along with "Gallipoli"...

'bender, it's all footage. They waded through hundreds of thousands of hours of film taken from that week. And no talking heads. Just the actual audio as recorded, too. Plus background music.
You KNOW what happens, and yet it's just gripping.
If this doesn't win best doc in every possible movie awards thing, then something's fixed with the voting.

Meanwhile, Captain Marvel is pretty standard Marvel fare. Not their best, not their worst. Good action film with cheeky attitude. Oh, and SLJ gushing over a kitty. Probably doesn't require the big screen. Probably isn't even really needed before the next Avengers. But fun.
BUT GO SEE APOLLO FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT **IS** required viewing on the biggest screen you can see it on. Go. Now. Right now. We'll wait on pizza 'til y'alles get back home. Just GO!

My wife wanted to see Capt Marvel today. We showed up an hour late due to the effin time change and missed the movie. We were watching the clock in her car, instead of our phone, which updates time automatically. -The theater was less than 20 miles from NASA, but Apollo 11 wasn't being shown this weekend. Odd. -If you have a dog in the house, you do not want to watch Apollo 11 at home. The beeps in the radio transmissions drive them crazy. My Schnauzer would crawl under our bed when he heard those two way radios.

'bender--the theatre we went to was showing CM about every half-hour or so. Seriously. Must've been on half their screens.
And funny dog story--we had a customer with a service dog who kept jerking his head looking behind. Finally dawned on me he was hearing the Sony Picture Station's little whoosh-whistle as that customer scrolled through the screens showing all the photos available to print. It sounded like a come-here whistle. I'll give the dog credit, he did not break. But he did look over there every single time.

I was going to see Avengers today. But it was a bust for me. My bro didn't do my suggestion which was pre-buy tickets online. He checked and called back "Oh it shows there's lots of tickets still available." But ninety minutes later and they were sold out at 3:40 and first available was 4:55. That was too late for my friend--her mom has early dementia and can get a bit freaky if she's at home alone at night. So they went to Avengers, we went to Shazam! Which we're both very glad it turned out this way.
Shazam! is way better than the trailers made it. It's classic superhero--fun, lighthearted, fun, a bit of danger and bad supervillian, fun, some Big Red Cheese, and fun. A little goofy which is correct for the original Captain Marvel, but not nearly as much as the trailer seemed. Def worth seeing. Probably better on the big screen but also probably not necessary. Did I mention it was plain fun?

We did not make it to the new Avengers movie either. We will see it in a week or two when the lines at the concession stand are shorter.

We saw Avengers End Game yesterday. I slept through much of the first hour because I was tired. Too many characters for me to keep up with. If a movie has more characters than the Dirty Dozen, I can't keep track of them very well.

We saw Rocket Man, about Elton John. It was in part, a musical with choreographed dance scenes. Not for you unless you are a fan. Definitely not for pre-teens. I'm not that thrilled about it.

We got a trailer for Rocketman at Avengers. Which I agree did not thrill me, and those are supposedly the best parts. Not planning to even library it.
RE: Aventers, I disagree with some reviewer who said there wasn't even a couple of minutes for you to make a potty-dash without missing something you shouldn't. Seemed like several scenes could've been livened up or cut. I vote cut to shorten the film. The massive melee however was really well done, and def' benefitted from the big screen. Probably would've helped to have seen Antman/Wasp before it.

Saw John Wick3 today. Crazy violent. The violence is not so graphic, but plentiful. The movie has great characters, a secret society and a secret code to live by. Great motorcycle chase scene. Halle Berry. Entertaining, but my cup of tea.

We saw "Once upon a time in Hollywood" today starring Pit and Di Caprio. It contained a lot of nostalgia from the 1960s. If you are under 45 years, the nostalgia will not interest you. The plot will not make sense to a young adult either. -Like any Tarrantino movie, there is plenty of profanity. -Beyond that, the characters were funny and likeable. The theatre was packd with ladies. -not necessary to see it on the big screen.

Has anyone seen any of the latest Disneys on-screen? Toy Story 4, Aladdin, Lion King redux? Just wondering if I can wait for library, or if any of them benefit enough from the big screen to pony up my admittedly-tight dollars?

I have not seen either. I'm thinking Lion King redux will be better on the big screen, with the suttle expressions on the characters faces and those African landscape scenes. The last Disney type movies I saw were the Jumanji redux and Despicable Me III.

We watched "Beach Bum", starring Mathew McConauhey as Moon Dog on NetFlix. You may have noticed that this movie was not shown in theaters for very long. My wife still wanted to see it because of McConauhey. -I thought it was worth watching at home. Moon Dog is a likable poet, wasting his life, which is a non-stop party. He is still a good writer. He just gets his inspiration from partying. Sort of a modern Dean Martin that can't sing. -The funniest scene was when Moon Dog went out on the boat with Martin Lawrence. I won't be a spoiler. -The story was tough to follow at times, but there were plenty of laughs. It wasn't a Cheech and Chong styled movie. There was more of a story. -I was not happy with the way the movie ended. There were enough funny scenes to make up for it. -Some nudity and the f-word is used with impunity.
