Now that you mention it, Kat, Chewbaca did seem to transform from goon to James Bond in a matter of minutes. Maybe he just learns fast. Anyhoo, it was fun to see how Solo met Chewy and forged the friendship. -Prequels do not bother me as much as in the past. I have become accustomed to seeing things out of chronological order. Some alternate history episodes may be interesting as well.

Wheelbender, Kat, I have a question for you. My wife wants to watch the new Solo movie, but unbelievably she hasn't seen the first movies, do you think she will enjoy it without knowing what's going on on the other movies?.

She will enjoy it without seeing the other Star Wars movies. Renting or downloading the first Star Wars movie would make it more fun, though.

I haven't seen Solo yet, but if she's into sci-fi/space opera then I think she'd enjoy it just fine. Maybe even better without the baggage of expectations. Then have her watch the original trilogy. And let us know her reaction. Wait--she's seriously never seen ANY of the originals? Like not even Star Wars? Gosh, even my Mom saw that one. Even Grandmother saw it. Commented afterwards that she didn't get any of it, but we kids seemed to enjoy it so that was worth it. She was NOT a sci-fi fan at all. Nor Mom. But they saw it. How'd your wife manage to miss all of them? She live in some remote island tribe that has no electricity and zero contact with the rest of the world?

Meanwhile, finished Victoria and Abdul. Very sweet movie. Even my Mom liked it. Makes Victoria a lot more human than history has portrayed her.

I saw Deadpool 2 yesterday at the cinema. To me, not as good as the first film. Good for rental or download. But I don't think it is worth the expense of watching it at the theatre.

Unbelievable isn't it!!, She's a philologist, she has been a book worm since she was a kid, not much into movies, although she is a geek on Harry Potter and Marvel. I haven't seen Solo yet, but if she's into sci-fi/space opera then I think she'd enjoy it just fine. Maybe even better without the baggage of expectations. Then have her watch the original trilogy. ricardo, I've been a bookworm since 1st grade, and I've also always enjoyed movies, too. Sometimes I seek out a book because of the movie. Sometimes I seek out a movie because of a book. Sometimes I weep along with the author because the movie-people so screwed the author (*cough*cough*Sound of Thunder--and I even paid full evening price for that dungmess!) Tell her Star Wars is a lot like Marvel (well, even more so now than before....) and a good action romp. And don't expect depth. You know, she should thoroughly enjoy the last movie, since she's never seen the two it cribbed from

Just saw Incredibles 2. What can I say, except INCREDIBLE!!! Totally worth the theatre! Great fun! Going to go buy the soundtrack album (if only for the three theme songs!)!! And I've also got to say, the best way of all to see a movie is in AMC's wine'n'dine (or I believe more unimaginatively named "Cinema Suites"). You have a Lazy-Boy recliner, a swing out tray for the food you order and enjoy while watching the movie. Waiters who bring out your food/drinks even during the movie (and fairly unobtrusively, then) HOT DANG that is the way to thoroughly enjoy all aspects of a movie! Just don't recline the Lazy-Boy too far or you might risk dozing off .... >'Kat

We love those movie taverns, Kat. Dinner and a movie in one stop.

'bender, I've been to the Fork & Screen before--upright cushy chairs, a "table" to eat your food at. Never been to Recliner-land before. Man I could get used to movie-going like that!

I saw Ant Man and the Wasp today at the cinema. It's a good movie. Not great but good. There is a lot of creativity in the story and settings. No bad violence and language. No hankypanky. a good motorcycle chase too. Triumph Bonnevilles, I think.

I saw Crazy Rich Asians today. I was expecting a comedy, but it was more of a chick flick.

I saw Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie about Freddy Mercury and Queen. I have been a fan since the late 70s, when they got very little air play on the radio. The movie had enough humor and plot that a non-fan would enjoy the movie. The movie focused on how Freddy Mercury's band mates and managers tried to keep him in check, without muzzling his creativity. It also focused on Mercury's relations with his family, the girl he almost married and his Male lovers. The movie will be fine to watch on video if you are a fan. The scene in Wembly Stadium was certainly better on the big screen, but that is a small portion of the movie.

Probably too late to catch this in theatres, but if you're a fan at all of the space program then see First Man. The family stuff is really slow-paced, but that might've been on purpose to emphasise the space stuff and make it even more exciting.
I will admit, I am quite possibly the biggest Neil Armstrong/moon landing geek there can be. After all, he gave me the moon for my b'day (which I nicely shared with the rest of the world). But there were shots covered that I had never thought about--all the rattles and groans when that big missile took off, for one. Esp what they must've felt when they first opened the door, up there on the moon. Never ever considered that stuff.
