Ok, how do I start this?
My name is Ron Vogel, and am currently living in Altamonte Springs, Fl. New this area, but not new to Florida.
Sort of in a bind now, can't get in a car, considering scooters. I saw a thread on ScootDawg (first forum I found on scooters in a search), tried to register on that, no go, found this site. The thread topic on ScootDawgs was: V.I.P. scooters?
There seemed to be two knowledgeable authors there, named cruiser66 and sinistar556. Tried to find them in this forum and don't seem to be here under these names.
I have never been on a scooter or a motorcycle, and haven't been on a pedal bike in some time. Money would be a challenge too.
The VIP's seem nice, but not knowing anything about them, I'm hesitant.
Can anyone help me here, or point me in the right direction? I currently live in an apt. community here, so I don't have a garage to work with. Storage would be out on the lot so security would be an issue too.
ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanx,
Ron V.

Thanx guys for the welcome and all. I appreciate the responses. Can anyone point me in their experience in the "right" direction? More to the point, can anyone make any recommendations as to better places in the Orlando, Fl. area to go to, to be treated right, and still be able to get support when needed from them?
Thanx,
Ron
P. S. is there a way to get notifications for responses to post? I can't seem to find it here. Thanx, RV

Let us know what you'll be driving--ie only city, or highway too? Long or short distances? How fast does typical traffic go? That sort of stuff. Then we'll know where to start in recommendations. Glad you found us! >'Kat

Trying to find a used car / truck, seems impossible so used scooter seems way to go. AS for the who, what, when, where and how: I will pretty much be going home to work to home. 6 miles in each direction. pretty much city driving, 30 -35mph, doable. I'm only considering something below the 50cc level, so that I don't have to do the motorcycle thing ( I'm in Florida, but still.... ), Right now, I bus in the morning or cab when the bus doesn't run ( no Sunday runs ) and sometimes will get a ride with a friend, or I'm walking it at night. That's all I've got, if you have specific q's just ask me Thanx, Ron V.

Hi Ron, welcome to the forum. I live in Orlando and have had a scooter for over 10 years. Craig's list is a good place to start looking. I regularly see new 49cc for $700 and used ones for less. Find a local shop to you that doesn't nickle an dime you to death and learn to do the small things yourself. There is a wealth of information, both here and on other forums available to you. Above all-don't be afraid to ask questions after you have tried to look them up first! GOOGLE is your friend. Stay safe. Buddy

Yes the TAO TAO VIPS are very common and parts are easy to get for them. And yes a 50cc will do you just fine if the speed limits are 30-35mph because that is about what a 50cc scoot will do. If speeds are 40-55 then you will need at least a 150cc but like you said those require registration, insurance and license.
So if you are somewhat mechanically inclined then not a problem. If any problems come up we can get you up and running again. Can't get a loan then just start saving the 50s do not cost very much you may also find one used for a lot less. But on a used one make sure it runs and you drive it around before handing over the money. Alleyoop
