I rode my scoot to work today, it ran great no sign of any problems. But when I went to start it, it would not start. Any suggestions on what to troubleshoot first?

if you can kick start it its probably something in the ignition system. low battery, bad connection. if its not have your spark plug tested, check valvle clearance and check for any vacuum leaks. cheers.

Kick starting doesn't work. Adjusted the valves and replaced the spark plug 2 months ago but will check both after work. Thanks.

Is the killswitch on the run position and side stand up? some have a killswitch on the side stand and if it is down it will not start. Alleyoop

Kill switch is in run position and I have tried both the center and side stand up with no luck. Just pulled the plug and grounded against the frame and have no spark. CDI maybe?

Yes could very be the CDI how is the coil is the BOOT CAP on nice and tight also check the wire going to the connectors on the COIL.
CHeck you ground wires one from the battery to the frame and one from the frame to the motor. Alleyoop

All the wire connections are tight. As for the coil I figured I would go ahead and replace it as there are a few cracks in the wire and plug cap.

1. Did you check for SPARK by taking the spark plug out or using a spare and holding against the motor or valve cover? A. If you have spark --One down 2. Did you adjust your Valve and to what GAP? 3. Have you VERFIED gas is being sucked into the intake --Gas going to the carb does not mean a thing it has to come out of the carbs Pilot Jet tiny holes by the BUTTERFLY. 4. Did you check for compression--If no guage use the finger trick. Alleyoop

I didn't check for spark but I did verify compression and both valves are at .004 in. I will check for spark tomorrow. Thanks for your help alley.

Yes, check for spark on both FRAME and MOTOR it may fire on the frame because the battery is also grounded to the frame BUT the motor has to also be grounded to the frame otherwise it will not fire while in the motor. Good Luck hope it is a simple thing as grounds. But if good grounds and still no spark then you have to test which one is the culprit, COIL, CDI, PICKUP COIL or STATOR.
If you have spare COIL and CDI swap them and see if it then fires. Alleyoop

Well you either have 2 good sets or 2 bad ones... Try cycling your kill switch on and off a few times maybe its going bad. Also if there is a side stand switch does it work? Is it adjusted correctly check for continuity through the switch. Same for the kill switch... I bet its something simple. Don't throw anymore parts at it until you know what's wrong, unless you have deep pockets and if you do just go buy a better bike...
