I just got these because my worried mother insisted www.motorcycle-superstore.com/64981/i/speed-and-strength-black-9-moto-shoes. They look like high top skate shoes but have reinforced toe and ankles. They are nice and casual, and the tan suede is nice. I wear a textile armored jacket, full face, and these shoes. I figure going 55 and sliding or hitting a car warrants some protection just in case

I seen my son's feet after wearing flip flops, shorts and a T-shirt. Was not a pretty picture, on his 49cc scoot. He was 18 years old and would not take advice from me nor my wife. After crashing, he thought maybe mom and pop know a little more than me. A 20 MPH accident can do a lot of damage to his feel, legs and arms. Hard lesson.

Sorry about your son, fireball, that he had to learn about protective gear the painful way. I hope it's not too bad, and he heals up quickly. But not so quickly that he forgets.

50cc is plenty fast enough to be seriously hurt or killed, there is actually very little difference between a crash at 30 mph and a crash at 70mph, in other words you sustain the same injuries at 30, that you do at 70. 30 is called the death speed, 50cc are supposed to be restricted to 30, but many aren't, or the restrictions are removed. and many quality ones will do 45. If you fall off or get hit, it doesn't make a dam difference what cc you are riding, whether a harley rider, or a sportbike rider, or a scooter rider,we all end up injured the same way

Boots are a must your feet are the closest thing to the ground And the first thing you try to save your self with. any and every time you fall on a bike your feet take the brunt.
I also think it's a good idea to find a gym or a dojo and learn how to fall. It will take a month or two of practice to teach your body but the potential to fall is life long. A good investment in my book

A good investment in my book its a good idea but falling off a bike is different then falling while on your feet, and falling off a scooter is also completely different and in a crash you probably won't have time to react and fall properly, all you have is your gear, I wear my Justin lace up work boots, they make great riding boots, The scooter landed on top of me after some dumb..k hid a brick at the end of my driveway, and if I hadn't had the support of tightly laced tall boots, I'm sure I would have broken my ankle, plus the exhaust burned a hole in my jeans, on top of the boot, before I could get the bike off myself

After I got some training and learned how to fall. I noticed that I still performed the movements even without having time to think. Much less bruising thou still got the rash
