I thought some of you might be interested in this picture. In 1961 I bought this 1960 Harley Davidson Topper. New for $363. 165 cc two stroke. The engine seized at 2500 miles repaired under warranty, and by 5000 it was getting noisy so traded it off. Attachments:

I wish I owned a motorcycle. 2001 GS500 or ninja 500 or sv650. But the scoot is enough for now, maybe later ;D

It was a far cry from the modern scooters. 40 MPH max, Certified under 5 HP. I rode it from NW Arkansas to eastern Kentucky and back. About 40 miles from home when it seized.

That thing looks like a Vespa and a Helix had a love child. I don't think I have ever seen one of those. Thanks for posting it up

Wow I would love to have a Harley scooter and ride around at Sturgis . I know HD had made 49cc mopeds with a 3 speed twist shift as off road motorcycles but that is the first HD scooter I have seen .
There was a thread about should HD make a scooter a while back and I think some of us would like it but hard core HD riders may frown on it . Would be wild to see a V twin 49cc HD scooter with loud exhaust .
What kind of tranny did it have ? How fast would it go ?

In those days it was called a Salsberry (sp?) transmission. Today we call them CVTs.
