Someone described what her scoot (2010 Qlink Commuter) was doing thusly: "It was running fine with the exception that it seemed to need the throttle adjusted higher to keep it running at a higher rpm while idling and the power going up a hill seemed sluggish." Am I correct in thinking that it sounds like a scoot that just needs the valves lashed? She took it to an alleged "mechanic", who said that he could tell "from the sound of the engine" that it needed a motor! (Remind me to never bring a scoot near THAT idiot.)
The scoot is for sale cheap ($500), but I just can't take advantage of someone like that.!

$500 for a 250 Helix clone? Where can I get that one?
Idle adjustment screw? Valve adj?

might wanna check for vacuume leaks too. These scoots have alot of vacuum lines and the intake manifolds do like to leak as well. Vacuum leak is gonna make it like it's a litle down on power and make it not want to idle or have a real inconsistant idle. How many miles on the bike?
While the helix clone does need valve lash adjustment from time to time, they need it no where near as often as the air cooled GY6.

I agree...the idle sounds like a vacuum leak. Would this have a vacuum-operated fuel pump? If so...yeah, a leak would also explain the low power. If the current owner cant/wint fix it...well, I think I.found my scoot! There is no way to turn this deal down.
Heck, I could probably part it out for $500.

Check the hoses and make sure one did not come off on the carb...

Bought it! Paid $1000 for it, and the seller provided a contract: if, according to diagnosis by a competent mechanic (rules out the first idiot), she will refund half the purchase price. (Honestly...I suspect I could part it out for $500.) It also has NEW Bridgestone tires (<100 miles), a fresh battery (sealed-top), and when bought (last year), it got a full coolant & brake fluid flush, an oil change (with RP synthetic!), and an air filter.
Also, despite the registration saying it's a 2010, it's actually, per the title, a 2007. (DMV typo, at a guess.)
It DOES run badly & stalls at idle...rather than futz with it, I'm having a local MC shop check it over. The guy's best guess when I described the symptoms is it needs a carb cleanout. (I need to have it inspected, anyway, which they can do.)

Valves are easy to adjust on those, the adjustments are on the outside of the Valve cover no need to take anything off to adjust them. Alleyoop

On the 250s you have to ask what motor it has some come with the 244cc Helix some with the linhai motor 257cc motor. Some 250s are actually marked wrong 250A 250B so you really do not know which motor is in there unless you ask, Vertical Motor or Horizontal Motor. Alleyoop

Looks like a vertical motor to me: it seems top stand straight up. (Hence the Helix and clones having no under-seat storage & the fuel tank in the floorboard.)
