i have always been under the impression the phrase "out the door" included everything. tax, registration, tag,... whatever. i saw a dealer ad last week "$745 out the door". assumed if i had $745 i could drive off the lot today. today i see an ad from another dealer, "$745 out the door + title and tag".
...blah, i'll be happy when i have the money for one of these scoots so i can stop reading all these misleading ads.

I suppose as long as they define it like that, it is probably legal: OTD +some more $...
Either way, ask for every detail upfront before handing over the cash.

Either way, ask for every detail upfront before handing over the cash. i think i know what dealer i am going to buy from. wish they were a bit closer so i could go check it out in person before i am ready to buy. i'll definitely get everything in writing now that you mention it before i hand over my money. out the door does include all fees though, correct?

It's where the "friendly Chinese scooter sales staff" will chuck you as soon as they got your money. (with the exception of dealers here.)

Out the door usually means the final delivered price with the you sitting on a registered paid-in-full bike with the keys ready to take it home unless they exclude tag and title. It may or may not include a helmet or riding gear but will mean that there will be no further dealer prep, paperwork, freight or processing fees from the dealership itself or the manufacturer.

To include dealer prep, shipping, and all them other hidden fees Then, in Missouri, you go to the insurance company and fork over some more cash. Then you go to the dept of revenue with all your paper work and give them even more money for sales tax, license fees, registration fees, office fees, ect.. Roy

I'm living on the right side of State Line, Roy.
Here in KS the sales tax etc was included by the dealership. All I owed was for the year's property tax. I think the tag was even included if I remember right (which I might not--that was what? six years ago now....) And of course insurance, which I had already gotten before my Harley-friend drove off the lot on my scooter.
Yes rambin', "out the door" SHOULD include all dealer costs, taxes prep title etc. But as shown, the dealer can redefine it, although I don't know what "$745 otd plus title and tag" would mean as far as what's included in that $745. And unless you make a good deal with them, it most likely won't include gear. Me, that was part of my bargain--they wouldn't come down on the price, so I insisted they include a helmet of my choice free. Only extra cost was tax, all prep etc was included in the posted price.

howdy, my point was that if you have twice as much as their otd price you're generally able to get out the door for that------- lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

I've always thought "out the door" is price + taxes and fees at the dealer. Price to drive it away. The registration and tags are extra.

My opinion: It means the scoot goes for 745; which includes the product and dealer fee, On top of that you need to add taxes, and tag or tag transfer (which cost little over $200 to do).
