Hi all,
I have a 2008 Linhai Aeolus 300 that I haven't ridden since last summer, and I'm trying to get it ready to sell. A couple times in the last week I've started it up and either ridden it or let it idle until warmed up thoroughly. The radiator fan had cycled on and off a couple times, and the temp gauge showed a normal operating temperature. Then, while it was idling, it just died. After that it became difficult or impossible to start, and if it started then I could maybe keep it running by revving it a lot, but it would die again as soon as I let off the throttle. It had no desire to idle at all.
So whaddyya think? Time to gap the valves again? Or a problem with the coil or something?

First check and adjust the valves then see if that fixs the problem. If it still does does not want to idle after the ENRICHER cuts off the extra fuel then the PILOT JET and or PASSAGE are clogged with varnish and you will have to take the carb off and clean out the PILOT JET and PASSAGE. The Pilot jet make sure you can see daylight through it. While the jet is out SPRAY into the JET hole and SPRAY should come out by the BUTTERFLY out of the TINY oulet holes for the PILOT JET. Or, run a crap load of seafoam thru it first. If that doesn't clear things up, do what Alley tells ya

When the valves are too tight they can prevent enough fuel and air needed to run or start the engine in some cases . Check the valves with the engine cold

Well, the valve adjustment seems to have done the trick. It started pretty easily after I finished the work, idled 45 minutes without stalling, restarted over and over, immediately each time, and performed well on a quick trip around the neighborhood. I just need to button it up tomorrow, take some photos, and put it on Craigslist. Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm getting out of scooting for now, but maybe I'll be in a position to score a nice Burgman down the road.

Well, it looks like I'll be the proud owner of this Linhai for a couple more weeks at least. I can't find my title, so I'll have to order a duplicate.

The valves being too tight baffle most shadetree mechanics minds as it gets fire , fuel and compression but no start . This is one resson you find em used for 100 bucks . Mine got loose and it would stall just before coming to a stop but start right up . An adjustment and it was new again . All 4Ts will need this at least once . Some need adjusting out of the crate according to my scooter dealer
