I read this from another thread.
"Different sounds a motor makes tells you what it needs, so listen for any sounds the motor makes.Popping while accelerating is a RICH condition. Popping while de-celerating is a LEAN condition. Burp Sounds accelerating is a LEAN condition Backfires are a Lean condition.
Lets find out which situation(LEAN OR RICH) is causing the problem. Run the sucker like you do when it STARTS TO ACT UP Back off the THROTTLE about 1/4 OF AN INCH and HOLD IT THERE: A. If the scoot Speeds up it is running LEAN. B. If the scoot Sputters or whatever BUT settles down it is running RICH.
This way you will know what it needs(more or less juice)."
Can I adjust how lean or rich it is running by adjusting the air/fuel mixture or will i need to rejet?

Yes, you can fix the problem using the FUEL RATIO MIXTURE--PROVIDED you have not added a FREE FLOW FLITER and or a FREE FLOW EXHAUST. What did you add or change?
Which situation are you experiencing? Alleyoop

I think it may be a little more then just running rich. Just plug was jet black after running it at WOT and hitting the kill switch. While I was waiting on a reply I figured I would adjust the valves. I adjusted some on another scooter this morning it it stopped all tapping. I was trying to figure out why I could not get the second scooter (the one with the running rich issue) to adjust properly. I rechecked to make sure the T lined up for TDC and it did. I then looked at the cam and it wasn't. I turned it until the cam was TDC and the T was about a 1/8th of a turn off. Could this be the issue of it running rich and bogging out? Running out to take pics and add them in a second.

You have to first align the CAM SPROCKET with the TWO HOLES even with the top of the head.
Then the POINTER on the Case should be a LITTLE BEFORE the "T" MARK on the Flywheel or right on it. Right now the timing is WAY ADVANCED. Alleyoop

Thank for confirming what I thought. I will work on the timing and report back soon.

^^^ alleyoop is 110% on that one! Your came is one tooth off and your alignment is on F..you are way advanced in timing..it must be on the T. Surprised it runs and does not kick back or backfire etc..hmmm

Carasdad, His alignment is NOT ON THE "F" you are looking at the PICKUP COIL position which is little past the "F". The POINTER is the tab built onto the Case.
When the spark Plug fires it fires anywhere from a little before the "T" to the "F" mark. Alleyoop

I need to get these old eyes checked..now I see his alignment mark on the case...it's waaaay down there.. Next time I need to click on and blow the picture up bigger... Good gawd..I hit 50 next month and already senile. Well..actually you know the rest of my story...so bear with me... Also..thanks for the pointer on my carb issue..Keven (skuttadog) sent me a 45 Pilot Jet to replace my 42..now once it warms up..take off is better and it does not lose low end once the enricher kicks off.

I lined everything up correct and it keeps jumping time. Maybe its the cam chain tensioner or maybe I'm not doing it right. The spring should put enough pressure on it to keep it tight i'm thinking.
