Need some new tires and found a decent deal on Motorcyclesuperstore.com. They offer to ship them to a 'preferred installer' who will put them on for whatever the shop may charge (I don't have the set-up to put my own tires on and balance them, etc.). Question....has anyone done this before and have good luck at the local shop? I guess I could just call the local shop they list as a preferred installer, but curious if anyone has done it and had success with a usually 'we won't touch a Chinese scooter' attitude.

I was going to put my new rear tire on myself but I could not for the life of me break the bead. I looked around and it appears that most car garages will not touch a scooter/motorcycle tire because 1) the rims are pretty small(too small for their tire machines) and 2) the side walls are very very thick and with out the proper tools they said they could ruin the tire. I had to end up going to a motorcycle garage and they were able to get it installed for $25 and an extra $3 for the valve stem that should be replaced every time a new tire is installed or as soon as you get your new scooter. It would be really dangerous if a valve stem were to blow out while riding.

a slide hammer like a dent puller for body work with a wide screw drive end works great along with some lube

If you remove them from the scoot and take them in off the bike I imagine any motorcyle will happily take your money. Should be about $25 bucks or so...

Back to your question, I bought tires off ebay but used a Motorcycle Superstore Preferred Dealer near me to put it on. I just took the tire there and told him how I found him.

I foundout that the Honda shop will change tires, so long as you take off the rim.. They have a special machine that changes the tires. Ones that change by hand, take a chance of having their rims bent. I took it too Goodyear and they bent the rim. I rode it a half mile up the road and boom, the tire came loose from the rim and I was traveling 45 mph.. Safety of having a machine do it is much more worth it, than taking a gamble with your life. If you take in the wheels, Cycle Gear will mount and balance for $30 or so. If you're in a hurry, used tire shops can often mount them while you wait.

Unless there are shops that can actually mount them in anticipation of you needing them hence no waiting... Or perhaps time travel mounting... I think the issue is the length of waiting right?? Sorry couldn't resist
