OUCH. I usually wear jeans and a jacket, tennis shoes, and riding gloves, DOT approved helmet.
Was just talking w a guy at the motorcycle store and mentioned I don't usually ride with my motorcycle jacket, which I dont but will probably start riding more with it, as that jacket is actually more breathable and thus more comfortable then my other normal jacket cause it has a inner liner I can take out.

As they always say "Dress for the CRASH, not the weather" I was wearing a helmet, leather jacket, gloves, and shorts. Not that blue jeans would helped. I'd like to say 'I Feel your pain", but that would be just wrong. (LOL) Forget about fixing/welding the scoot. Take the ins $, and buy a new to you whatever you want. And dress for the crash. Hope you heal quickly Dave Attachments:

Count your blessings now and don't tempt fate twice.
An aquaintence of mine though he lived through his low speed enounter was hurt badly due to his lack of gear. The hardest injury he has had to deal with is the foot injury. When you have low shoes on they tend to fly off and then feet get split down the middle by sheet metal sign and guard rail posts or the other vehicles lower frame and suspension components. Most times you will never fully recover from a foot injury.
Check out the Silver Ignitor Jacket from Leather Up. It is usually between $59 and $69 and works very well in Florida Heat. I wear mine all day year round and after taking out the CE3 armor wash it in a front load washing machine every month or so. A pair of carbon fiber armored leather mesh glove and a modular helmet and you are mostly set. Sketchers has a good pair of boots that goes on sale for $39 ever few months and you will be mostly set.

I would add boots and gloves to the default getup. I wear either Timberland steel-toe construction boots or Double-H miltary style motorcycle boots, and Alpinestars Octane leather gloves - regardless of the weather. I never ride without them. Good for putting the cager in the same condition he put you in, too. (Cagers must be insured here, but most simply bail.) Even though I'm a schoolteacher, I wear the Timberlands all day, every day in class, so there's never room for "just this once" when I'm in a hurry.

Glad to see you're ok. While you are waiting to heal up, check into some armored riding apparel. It's the cheapest most effective insurance you can buy. "Dress for the slide, not for the ride"

Oh red, I'm sorry for the pain I'm sure you're feeling.
And I also will recommend a mesh armored jacket and pants and gloves. Boots of some kind, even hiking. In our huggy (that's humid and muggy) KS summers, I've never been overheated riding with all the gear all the time. I sometimes feel a bit overdressed next to a big-boy bike, but I just remind myself I prefer my skin where God put in, not on the road. That, plus the scrape on the chin of my helmet which would've been horrible on my jaw, pretty much guarantee I do NOT turn on the key without being all geared up.
Please please hon', please look into some mesh riding gear. And hope you never need to find out how well it works!
Heal soon!!

$5000 ? ? ! ? ! ! Okay, that might be a little overkill. Well, unless it comes with a portable a/c unit or something. Now, that might be neat. Probably would sell like hotcakes in FL, an a/c motorcycle jacket. Hm. I got mine for around $150. I picked it 'cause it included the windbreaker and quilted liners. Ditto the pants. I think the gloves were around $25ish. Armored over the knuckles, extra and padded leather on the palms, some kind of very breathable fabric between the fingers (I can spread my fingers while driving and really feel the breeze!). Boots, I picked up a pair of really sturdy hiking boots that looked new from Savers, probably less then $10. I also got a new pair of steel-toe when KMart had a super-sale, smallest men's size work boot. I think they were about $15. Trick is to shop (I hear the men groan ) around for what you want, then for the best price. That, and to avoid the hyped-up gear. I mean really, $5000? Surely you can get by with a $4000 jacket . Oh, and when things aren't so raw, lots of lotion with aloe and vitamin E. Rub some in throughout the day. If you can find it, if they're still around, Fruit of the Earth makes a good lotion. I used it after my carpal tunnel surgeries, and the scars barely exist. Good stuff. Keep us updated how it's going for you. >'Kat, feeling the ouch looking at those photos

For gloves I have been sticking with Cycle Gear either the Bilt (5 Year guaranty) or Sedici (Lifetime). If you loose your receipt they can now reissue a lost one for about a year or so at the store and after that you can contact their Corporate Offices to reissue one if there you need a free replacement under the Guaranty
