Well this morning I had to go to the store.. When I pulled into the store, I got off my scooter. turned around and took off my helmet just as one of South Carolina's finest State Trooper's was pulling in behind me with his lights blinking... hmm I thought... well the guy jumps out of his car and says he clocked me doing 58 MPH!!! he then went to tell me that I was the only vehicle anywhere near where he was running his radar. Well I told him that there is no way in that my 49cc scooter was doing 58 MPH, and then he threatened to take me to jail! I wasnt being rude or mean or loud or anything! I even told him that my speedometer wont even hit 50 unless I am down a HUGE hill. Is it possible that I was going that fast??? I know what 58 feels like I used to have a 150. I bought this scooter used 2 months ago. And granted it is very fast for a 50, ( I havent seen a 50cc yet that can keep up) but I don t think there is any way in I was doing 58 . Not even going downhill. So . was his radar lying or was he lying? hmmm damn prick..

no he didnt show me anything, he just acted like a prick. Then he gave me a "waning" for speeding and wrote me a ticket for 150 dollars for not having a Moped Permit... They just started it recently here in SC and I never heard of it..

It just really pisses me off that automatically everything a cop says must be true. When I know with absolute certainty that My scooter will NOT do 58 MPh. Do you think a judge would believe me??? no way in

The cop was probably one that couldn't keep up with you on his 49cc scooter and he is mad you are faster than he is. Just go get the moped permit and be happy you don't have a speeding ticket.

They just started it recently here in SC and I never heard of it.. Cause he knew he had no merit for issuing a speeding ticket but wanted to do something, so wrote u up for an obscure law. Cops...Citizens.....Cops win every time, because they put their life on the line every day dealing those crazed scooterists

1. Have a gps that does logging. Produce the log for court. opps you don't have that. Oh, you didn't get a ticket "lucky Dawg" 2. Get the permit and go to court they will let you off. Done Deal. if not appeal it up.
Cops have it Rough. They are like the Trash People, having to deal with societies Trash. So it is not what it seems. Not like you think,, It is like what he thinks. It's thinking man. The Judge thinks way different. He was a lawyer befor he was a Judge and he knows all the ins and outs of the Bizzness.
They also know you weakness. your EGO. you need to switch it off because they feed on it. It will get you in more trouble in life that you are aware of. Beware of yourself. Don't get caught Yogi Bear knows.
It's not as bad as you think. It's worse LOL
In VA you get "caught going over 35",, key work CAUGHT,, this is from the Commonwealth's Attorney in Gloucerter County,, he said "DON'T GET CAUGHT "
If then you are on a motorcycle. You get hit with 1 no insurance. 2 no License class Motorcycle. 3 no tags no instection etc etc etc You Get the Idea.
So you didn't know about the permit,, So now you do. That's your Out. The Judge will see you were non-compliant and got the permit and are compliant you walk. PS don't take a hand gun to Court.

I'm gonna throw in my two cents. It is your responsibility to know the laws. You can get the permit, go to court and maybe the judge will throw out the ticket for no permit. What was the posted limit? Lucky you just got a warning.

Im not upset about the ticket. what im upset about is the fact he pulled me over because he said I was doing 58 MPH , and I know for absolute certainty that its not possible. The man is a liar and if you wouldve been there... ahh forget it. I just want some type of internal affairs or something to see his tape

If he was using a K-Band Radar like most cops do. That type of Radar will clock the biggest thing in the road. like someone said above get a GPS logger app for your phone!

Radar guns are prone to false readings. For instance, if you approach a speed radar posted on the right lane shoulder, from the left lane, and do a lane change to the right lane close to the radar, it will record less speed. I was going ~35 when I did a lane change at the radar point, and it showed I was going 26.
I presume the reverse is true too, changing lanes from a right lane to a left lane, when the radar is set up on the right shoulder, shows an increase in speed reading.
There are a lot of false readings on these things. Sometimes radars don't even see a scoot.

I bet if you got a copy of the police report it will say he didn't radar you, just paced you and followed you for more than a mile..... I should upload a picture of the last police report I have from being pulled over

I presume the reverse is true too, changing lanes from a right lane to a left lane, when the radar is set up on the right shoulder, shows an increase in speed reading. There are a lot of false readings on these things. Sometimes radars don't even see a scoot. You are correct about the false reading of radar. Many things can cause this, large signs blowing in the wind, other larger vehicles, ect. I have even heard of some police will aim the gun at the heater/air conditioner blower. Speed radar is used in two ways. It can be set to read the speed of an object that is moving away from, or approaching the signal. If the radar gun is on the right side and you are in the left lane and change lanes to the right as you approach the radar signal it will read a faster speed than you are actually traveling, because you are moving toward the radar gun at a faster speed (forward + sideways) when you change lanes. The opposite is also true, if you are in the right lane and change to the left. This sideways movement can be as much as a 10mph difference. The way radar works, is it sends out a radio signal of a known frequency. If an object is moving towards the signal the signal is compressed, the faster the object the more the frequency is compressed, when it bounces off the object this compression changes the frequency of the signal causing the return frequency of the signal to be higher. The radar gun then reads this returned signal and determines the difference of the original frequency and the returning frequency, then the speed of the object is calculated and displayed. When a radio signal bounces off an object moving away from the signal the signal is elongated, causing the return signal to have a lower frequency than the original frequency. Roy
