Another rainy day up here in Massachusetts. No broken arm scoot rides for me today. I'll tell you it hurts to ride but I just can't stop. I guess I'm a scoot addict junkie!!!

I've been in pain so long I think that I like it now. I just rebuilt my motor with a 50mm piston 23mm intake valve and 20mm exhaust valve. I put 6g rollers in my cvt and still can't get over 45mph and a 20mm high perf cvk carb # jet. Whats up with this I should be able to do 55mph you think?

Since Raising your RPM limit is Not and option your going to have to make a significant Gearing change to get to those desired speeds.

I put the 2. final gear in already. It didn't seem to do anything. I don't know what else to do except loose 50lbs lol.....

49 - 17t are my final gear ratio. I put my stock carb back on with a # jet its sputtering and chocking with a . And my 20mm carb is not making any difference either I had a # in it and dropped down to a # the 20mm carb seems to be no different than the stock carb. I can't figure this out. My scoot should be doing at least 55mph.

I put 7g rollers in and my speed increased 5mph and I can accelerate speed uphill, but my take off and acceleration is slower. I'm thinking about 8g rollers in a week or so and maybe a # jet also. I think that might do the job for my high end speed. Any thoughts let me know brothers.

I don’t think it’s realistic to hit 55mph with the 49/17 gears, but maybe close to 50. If you have a headwind forget about it. I honestly think if it’s a really strong headwind you may actually be slightly faster with stock gearing, or close to a tie, unless you can power through it.
Is top speed the most important thing to you right now? Is it worth sacrificing acceleration for top speed at this point? That’s up to you to figure out what’s best for your riding situation. Let’s say you could hit 55mph, how long will you actually maintain that speed and how long will it take to you get to that speed?
If you ride on straightaways a lot then maybe increased max speed will pay off in the long run. If you don’t, then Little Johnny’s scoot down the road that can do only 45mph (but is quicker) will probably beat you from point A to point B.
I haven’t messed with any other gears but the 49/17. There’s no way I’d go with taller gears with the 72cc I had, cuz there was no way I’d probably ever hit that top speed on my daily route for it to be worth it.
Just decide what’s best for you or what your goal is.

with 70cc 45 is about the best you can expect without better aerodynamic efficiency or boost air drag starts to really hurt above 40

Yup dito on what both of the above say, just not enough snots to pull a taller gear..

I came to realize the the heavier Variator weights make the top speed difference. They are much slower on the takeoff and acceleration. I put 7g weights in and can actually accelerate uphill depending on the incline. I agree with you about the stock gears. They seem to be better than the 49/17. I'm gonna try some 8g rollers just to see what happens. The heavier weights seem to give the scoot more power than the lighter ones. I'm putting them in in a few days and I'm going with a # jet because the heavier weights seem to be able to burn the fuel a bit better on the high end too!!! We'll see what happens. I will keep you posted. God Bless everyone!!

The ones I wanted (and actually ordered) were the 50/16T gears. That’s what was listed on Scrappy’s site at the time, but they stopped getting them in and sent me the 49/17 gears instead without telling me. I decided to try them out anyway instead of sending them back.

I was pretty much shooting for, with wanting the 50/16, a few more mph at top speed and it keeps the rpms down a bit but then again I’d still have rollers in there that would keep the rpms between 7-7.5k at max. I think it would’ve been perfect for me. I know racingplanet was the only place that had them, and they still might.
The engine I have now, I bought with the 72cc already on it. Not even sure what gearing it has (my other engine was 51/15 stock for the secondary gears).

The rollers make a huge difference. I just put 8g rollers in my cvt, but haven't tried them yet. My clutch bell is turning blue I need to find a way to get better airflow in there! I put a cone on my air hole, but it doesn't seem to be working well. Any suggestions?
