Ok...I would like to get some thoughts from my fellow scooter peeps in regards to my scoter issue.
Yesterday morning I began my 10 minute ride to work on my scooter (2011 Kymco 150cc Super 8). I got a few miles from my house when the scooter started to sputter and it eventually stopped running completely. Now the day before I changed the fuel filter so right away I assumed that perhaps I installed the new filter incorrectly. I removed the seat to check and saw that it was installed correctly. I then tried to start the scooter to return home and it started right up. However it sputtered and died again about a mile later. After finally making it home I took the battery to the dealer to have it checked and they told me that it was dead (2 years old). I bought a new one knowing that this was likely not the cause of the scooter dying. I installed the new battery and it ran great for a few miles again before sputtering and dying. I gave up and had the dealer pick the scooter up and bring it to their shop for repair. It is still under warranty so I am hoping that whatever is wrong with it will be covered. So I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to what could be wrong with it? I was thinking perhaps the fuel pump ?...thoughts?.....sorry for being so long winded.

Sounds like either the fuel pettcock is going bad or you could have a vaccum leak somewhere.

Probably needs a valve adjustment.

On a similiar subject. Which way should the fuel filter be installed. Filter to the top and empty space to bottom or filter material to the bottom?

I think there's a little hole in the cap of the fuel tank to let air in as the fuel gets used up. Otherwise the fuel tank get a suction in it that stops fuel getting pumped. So it could be blocked maybe.

I tend to agree with gatekeeper. If your filter is full..you must be getting gas. It shows the typical signs of valves needing adjusted as they are too tight which is normal as an engine wears and settles in. Classic in that in runs great till it warms up...then sputters or runs poorly. Most of the time they will just stop running altogether. Easy fix though....should be back on the road in no time.. ;D

I was thinking the same as Xylon, a vapor lock type of situation. Had the same symptoms over a year ago. Loosened the cap and ran fine. Cured the problem after removing EGR or whatever system I had and turned around an inline valve leading back to the tank. Has been a while. I'd have to get in and look at it to jog my memory.

I'm still stuck at the 2nd battery dieing. Being stator and /or R/R Hopefully just a fuel issue (meaning, what did u do/fix before it quit working? Fuel filter)

I only use VISU FILTERS like this one they are very strong and filter really well, nothing in over 4 years has gotten past it to clog my carb. Alleyoop

ok everyone...the Kymco dealership just called me back and my scooter is fixed. I am rather embarrased to say what it was. It turns out the only thing wrong with the scooter was a very kinked and twisted fuel line. I looked over the scooter thoroughly and I never even noticed it ! Oh well....I guess that is why they are the specialists. The good news is that the scooter is back to running awesome again!!!
