mary peak

howdy, had a good sunday drive with a friend to mary peak just south of corvallis oregon. i joined him at his place and we attached a gel pad to his kawasake vulcan. i had it laying around so figured he should be using it as i've noticed him start squirming around after an hour or so riding. he usually leads the way because he knows the area.
so we headed out highway22 westbound and took a back road to visit a small airport he likes to go by and then met highway 99w and headed south to corvallis. after 30 miles or so we took a cut-off which would get us to hwy20 west. on the way through corvallis a fellow pulled alongside on what looked like an 850 bmw. he was really enjoying the roar and acceleration of that nice motorcycle. what i noticed was the aerodynamic backpack he was wearing on his back. wierd looking. any-way another 20 miles or so and southbound on i think it was hwy34 we started hiting the nice smooth-road switchbacks and turned up the side road to mary peak. it is a wonderful curvy road that climbs at least a quick couple thousand feet and tops out at a state park. we stopped and got a couple pictures which i hope to be able to attach. they may be too large to attach though so if they don't come through i'll have to study how to get them reduced.
after a break and pictures we were off down the mountain through the woods and steep drop-offs at the side of the road. we stopped at a co-op store to get a lunch and healthy shopping items. it speciallizes in organic produce and gluten free etc. when we fueled at corvallis he wanted to try my bv350 so i switched to his vulcan. after about 20, 000 miles with no clutch, it was a bit of adjustment to get used to the transmission. we rode back to the airport near monmouth and swithced back. his comment was ----smooooth-. i found the vulcan really stable on the corners compared to the slight twitchiness of the piaggio.
all-in-all it was a great outing with a new friend. it was about 140 miles round trip and well worth doing.

howdy, i think the next innovations should be in the area of aerodynamics and that is tough to do on a cycle of any kind. with machines as light as these , even the larger ones should be able to do 100 mpg if we could solve that problem.

howdy, just opinion here. when breaking in , it is my understanding that the internal pressure caused by ignition pushes the rings out agains the cylinder wall which helps shape that area of the cylinder(wears from metal contact). so what the engine needs is very brief full throttle to perforn that which also produces heat. then short period off throttle to cool and lubricate. no long periods of steady speed. i use that method without any deleterious effects. as stated change the oil within a few hundred miles.

howdy, here's a suggestion intended to be funny/wierd--- use the blow dryer on your hair and get the scoot fixed so it will start---- ;-X ok so i'm probably the only one entertained--

howdy, i'm no expert but the water pump can't pump air so that is why you get the high temp and fan on is because the water is not circulating. when it is cool, take the cap off and if you can reach any length of water hose on the scoot, pinch it and see if you can get a purb from the open overflow tank. if not , leave the cap off and start it and while it is running, pinch the hosea few times and see if you can pinch a prup of air out so that water can get down to the water pump. if you can, you should notice the water in the overflow tank go down, at which time you add some to bring it up to full and you should be good to go. if this is not right , someone should leave a message to that effect.

howdy, my selling experiences have been long and laborious and frustrating. the sym hd 200 i took to a nearby shop and put on consignment. some months later i came back from vacation and a friend called and asked if i had my scoot since the shop owner had been stabbed withing a millimeter of his life and his friends had cleaned out the shop and closed the doors. he wasn't answering the phone and another person told me the owner had ripped him off to the tune of about 15,000 bucks. after he got out of the hospital i saw him at a yard sale and he said he had my scoot in storage and would give it to me if i came and got it , but he gave me no indication of where it was. a year later and after his divorce, i was still trying to locate him and finally did through a friend at which time he said his now ex wife had the scoot and would not give it to him. i said as how he owed me something for it and he agreed to pay about half what it was worth out of his pocket and as good faith proof he wasn't trying to steal it. i figured that was better than a kick in the butt so accepted 600 bucks for the scoot which i figured was worth at that time and with low miles etc, about 1400 bucks. a bird in the hand rather than a bird in the bush so to speak. he may still be laughing at how he got my scoot for virtually nothing. it's done andthat's that

howdy, this is a silly reason; just to make my service interval coincide with the weather imposed slack time--- D8
i moved to this area recently and there is a major construction of the nearest freeway interchange so i'm riding some just to familiarize myself with alternate ways to go to my frequent destinations. riding some just because a friend wants to go take some tools back to his former employer. then he showed me the back roads home.
does that provide some answers to your silly question--- ((*

howdy, yup it is amazing how thirsty one gets when ya put it in the wind. i've amazed more than one waitress. after dissappearing the second glass of water, they sometimes just bring the pitchur. thanks for the write up

howdy, about the head shake, let me make a suggestion. if your scoot has a center stand, put i up there and get the front tire off the ground. then take a hammer that will stand on its head and sit it close to the tire and spin the tire slowly , noting the relative distance from the tire to the hammer handle. if there is significent difference at any point, you have your culprit the reason i'm conscious of this is that the mechanic at my dealer puts the scoot on the motercycle lift and only secures it by tightening the clamp onto the front tire. when he was installing my tail trunk he was reefing on the wrenches higher than the top of the tires and it has wobbled since. i believe he bent the front wheel at that time which introduced the head shake which it never had before that.
