We loaded the scoots into the pickup and hauled them out to Brenham to escape the congested suburban roads. The speed limits of the roads on the way are too high for our scoots. It was a sweltering hot afternoon. Fortunately, there is a city park with plenty of shade just north of downtown Brenham where we off loaded. First destination was the Giddings Stone Mansion, ironically off of Stone Street, which sits atop a big hill with a great view. We continued south to Pleasant Hill Winery on Salem Road. We tasted some and added a few bottles to the saddle bags. We turned back north to intercept Old Mill Creek Road. It provided about 10 miles (one way) of primo scooter riding with some tight curves, moderate hills, creeks, few intersections or cars and plenty of scenic ranches. We intended to ride into the town of Burton, but the road dead ended at US 290, which was too fast for our 125cc scooters, which were not fully broken in. After a taking a break in the shade, we took Old Mill Creek Road back east to Brenham and loaded up the scoots. We had to guzzle water all the way home to recover, but the the scenery and uncongested roads were well worth the trip.
