This is a short video of a test ride with my new Sony action camera mounted on the scooter. I am still learning about this camera, editing, ect.. This is my first video uploaded to you tube and I am still learning, so any help will be appreciated. The clacking noise you hear is not the valves but the camera rattling in the protective housing. Here is the link. This is how I mounted the camera. Roy

Is it also possible that these symptoms are caused by a cdi unit that is no longer advancing the timing??? I am just trying to diagnose with your help before I start throwing parts at it. The belt looks fine, but the whole engine and case gets hot. It revs up fine on the stand and takes off nice, but falls on its face after that and only goes 25. I had the vacuum advance on a car come off one time and it made the engine run hot....thats why I asked about the CDI. Thanks in advance for your input. Rob You do not have to throw parts at it to adjust the valves. It is possible the engine is running lean check for vacuum leaks. How does the spark plug look? If the vacuum advance came off on your car it would have started running lean because it was sucking excess air in through the hose. The engine started running hotter because of the lean condition, not because the spark timing wasn't being advanced. A retarded or insufficient timing advance will cause a lack of power because the fuel doesn't have time to completely burn. Roy

The short answer is, yes. If the belt housing is getting really hot you may also have a another problem, such as a worn belt, ect..

Neat trick, but caution you might scratch the bore in the case where the oil seal seats with the chain and the seal may leak around the outside. If you do scratch it a little high temp silicon will help seal it so it don't leak oil.

Yep, a new piston and jug is needed. It looks like a heat or lack of oil problem. Cant really see the top of piston but it looks pitted. possibly running lean or oil pump is shot. The piston and cylinder are scored pretty bad. there would have been a lot of metal in the oil. If this was my engine I would split the case and flush it out. I'll explain why, When you drain the oil it is almost impossible to get it all out because of the way the case is cast. If you drain the oil from the side oil drain plug a small amount of oil will remain in the case as it cant flow over the hump in the center. the oil filter plug has a lip on the inside of the case, so if you drain oil from here a small amount will remain in the case. When the case is bolted together the hump in the center goes all the way across the bottom of the case. So even if you take out both drain plugs there is still about 3/8 to 1/2 inch of oil in the front portion of the case that cannot drain over this hump. Roy

What do you consider "Good"? Was it a name brand such as Airsal, NCY, ect.? Where did you purchase it from? Just because you paid $120 doesn't make it good. A "good" bbk will always include a new wrist pin and cir clips.

You don't state what size carb you have. Is it stock? All of my carbs up to 23mm use 4mm jets, my 24mm carb uses 5mm jets. The best way is to pull one out and measure it, then you know for sure.

I can't say anything about the 2T kit, I have 4T engines. I have however ordered several times from them and have had no problems with my orders.

I'm gonna try The airsal piston with a ncy 50mm head and a9 cam. And give that 24mm carb a try. I don't want to use the efi system because I already have it tuned for the 72cc engine. I would have to flash it and start over. I would like to keep it intact, just in case I need to reinstall the 72cc engine. If every thing goes good on this build I may use it later. Also I may try the airsal kit with the stroker engine I am building.

Don't be to concerned about the tuning. It is just a trial and error system. Depending on variables such as the type of air filter and exhaust you have. I stated that I had a hard time tuning mine, but I failed to state that this is a 47mm bbk (72cc) I had another carb to put on so I didn't mess with it to much. A 24mm carb is a little to much for a 72cc engine. The 24mm carbs will work better on the 50mm bbk (83cc) I later removed the 19mm carb and installed an E.F.I system. Listen to millc and don't be afraid to try.

Tell us more about the 38mm big vavle head? It is basically a stock head with larger valves and seats installed. The intake valves are 22mm and the exhaust valves are 17mm. The intake and exhaust ports are ported. The head I have has the shorter 64mm valves. Roy

I purchased a stage IV kit several years ago. I had a hard time tuning that 24mm carb. If I remember right it had a #102 main jet and a #38 idle jet in it. I tried several jets. I ended up putting my stock 19mm carb back on. I still have that 24mm carb sitting on a shelf. Good luck.

My koso digital dash is not working properly, as some times only 1/2 of the screen displays. It still lights up but shows no information on the right half of the screen. I have been thinking of replacing it with another koso but haven't decided which one yet. I also have been looking at the trail tech vapor. If I go with this one I will have to rewire all the sensors. If I go with another koso I can use the sensors already installed. Does any body have one of the trail tech's installed on there scoot? If so how do you like it.
