So i purchased the stage 4 performance kit from scrappy dog scooters minus the exhaust got 5 gram variator weights red hot (racing) spark plug wires, red hot (racing) cdi, 1k clutch springs, high performance air filter, stock but drilled and bored exhaust, and a bando drive belt. www.scrappydogscooters.com/139QMB_50cc_Performance.htmltheres the link if you wanna check it out. It comes with a 24mm Run tong carb doesnt tell me what jets r in it. I have been reading alot about running lean or rich and adjustments on the carbs. I know how to max my f/a mix but I am unsure about how to tell if I am running lean or rich and I would like to know before I get my scoot up and running so i can quickly get the problem fixed. I am a complete novice and put that kit on my bike off youtube vids and I have done a lot of research about valve adjustments and timing and I believe its all right i just couldnt find very much material on what lean or rich actually means. So basically i dont understand much about carbs. I will be contacting scrappydog scooters to find out what jets are in that carb will repost later. and would also like some suggestions as to any little tips or tricks on really just about anything would be great. Im really just looking to learn as much as possible so please go off topic on anything it would be much appreciated!

Would 24 sounds too big as you would need more vacuum to use it and with the extra air may be lean . I would think the 20mm carb would do better . Too lean can bog but too rich can too . I took off the airbox lid for laughs in my driveway , with stock jetting it idled ok and had a louder sound but bogged so bad I did not get out of the driveway . With jetting it is a trial and error with testing and checking the sparkplug color to see how the jetting is . Running too lean will make the engine run hot and has damaged many engines as the piston can crack , seize or blow up . Run it down the street and have it hit top RPM and hit the killswitch . Coast home and allow it to cool and remove the sparkplug and compare it to this chart www.4secondsflat.com/plug_chart.html

I purchased a stage IV kit several years ago. I had a hard time tuning that 24mm carb. If I remember right it had a #102 main jet and a #38 idle jet in it. I tried several jets. I ended up putting my stock 19mm carb back on. I still have that 24mm carb sitting on a shelf. Good luck.

whats the point of no intake spacer? I think you guys missed that I said I am a complete novice. when you mention something like that It would be great if you could provide me with an explanation as to why you did that.

The 150cc manifold or manifold for the 24mm carb sits up the same height without the spacer as the 50cc manifold with spacer it works great without spacer

So are you telling me if I am having problems getting it to run good that I should try it without the spacer?

will the provide more or less air? Since roy has me concerned about tunning this I have been looking at a lot of ways to add/remove more air. As it is right now the air filter I have looks like it has almost no restriction, which i read will require me to either up/down jet. I also read that if you use the stock air box you have a lot more control over the air flow bc you can drill holes in the box and cover them back up if its too much. Do you think that will help me out?

Don't be to concerned about the tuning. It is just a trial and error system. Depending on variables such as the type of air filter and exhaust you have. I stated that I had a hard time tuning mine, but I failed to state that this is a 47mm bbk (72cc) I had another carb to put on so I didn't mess with it to much. A 24mm carb is a little to much for a 72cc engine. The 24mm carbs will work better on the 50mm bbk (83cc) I later removed the 19mm carb and installed an E.F.I system. Listen to millc and don't be afraid to try.
