OK - have some new developments...
I purchased a new coil and it arrived today. Was an orange coil and is supposed to provide the plug with a larger spark...
I also purchased a new CDI and intake which Should arrive by next week. (I love how cheap these parts are!)
I also re-adjusted my valves...they were WAY off. Maybe I just did then wrong last time... I used the "T" mark instead of the 3 holes on the sprocket last time, now I just used the 3 holes on the sprocket for TDC.
I also changed out the oil and put in synthetic. The oil level was extremely low too.
After all this I tried to start it. The muffler blows are out a lot harder, and the carb sucks in air much more forceful too!
The engine even popped a few times, I sprayed in some carb cleaner in the intake vacuum inlet and it popped some more.
Now I see another issue. There is a big oil leak coming down from what looks like where the muffler connects to the engine. It is dripping from everywhere it seems, but mainly right at the exhaust port.
Could that be a blown head gasket possibly - if not what could it be?
Thanks!

No.... I put the cdi from the scooter that is not working into a known working scooter and it started up... leading me to believe it is not the cdi since it worked in the other scooter

Possibly some developments...
So I have this 50cc scooter that works. I pulled the plug on it to feel what the compression was like with my finger...
Went to my 150cc and put about 1oz or so of 10w30 into the plug hole. I cranked it over a few times with the kickstart. Put the plug back in and nothing...
I pulled one of the vacuum hoses on the intake and sprayed in carb cleaner....nothing
Pulled the plug and funneled in some gas... it did not try to start, but I heard some strange hissing noises coming from the engine after the starter stopped making noise.
Pulled the plug and felt for compression with my finger. It was just as strong if not stronger than my 50cc!
I pulled the working CDI from the 50cc and swapped it with the 150 CDI. I heard some strange noises like every 3 seconds when trying to start it like it would pause for a split second. So either it is trying to start, or the starter is going out... That started immediately after the known working CDI went in.
Whats really weird is that I took the 150cc CDI and put it into the 50cc scooter and it started up right away...
still frustrating me...any more suggestions?
Thank you!

...after reading many troubleshooting articles and from suggestions on this post, I now believe it is a compression issue. The scooter sat for months before I bought it Probably can try putting some oil in the plug hole. I'm going to start with 1oz or so to start I'm definitely not getting 100-150 psi...

Ive also read somewhere about a kickstand killswitch.
I have been trying to start with the kickstand down, but i am getting spark... so probably not it...

Well...i have been trying to start it for a few days now. Wouldnt that in fact be lubricating the cylinder using the electric start?
I guess i could try squirting in some oil to see if it works. Just regular motor oil? ...not sure how im going to be able to get it in there...
I'll check the plug gap but its brand new and i gapped it per the stamp on the scooter.
How frustrating...

Bought a compression tester at HF today and hooked it up to the scooter...
I was not getting any readings though. Possibly the one I have is not sensitive enough. The first notch on the gauge is 15 psi, and it did not reach that reading. On average what psi reading should I get?
The air gets trapped in the gauge, so when I pressed the release button air came out. Its possible the $17 I spent on the gauge may be because its a ... I sprayed air from my compressor into it and didn't get even 30 psi..
Here is some other things I did..
I swapped a coil with my other scooter, a known working coil and it did not fire. I also funneled some gas into the plug hole and tried again - still nothing...
URGH - what is wrong with this thing!

Lol! Great picture!
Another thing I noticed was that the plug was totally dry... doesn't smell like gas and is not wet from fuel...
Starting to think its.a.fuel or vacuum issue again... maybe something with the Carb?

chihuahuas - you owe me a $ (or a Coke) =) my paypal account is #thisscootispi$$ingmeoff
Pulled the muffler
Pulled the plug again and sprayed carb cleaner right into the plug hole and still nothing.
Going to buy a coil tonight online from Amazon or wherever.
Funny thing is that I dont really smell gas when I hold the throttle wide open when trying to start it. On my little 50cc I smell gas when I try to start it... I tried sucking on the vacuum hose that connects to the petcock as well hoping that I could get some fuel flowing, but the filter is full of it.
Also going to get a compression tester from Harbor Freight tomorrow...
...I'm not giving up... what else can I try?

OK - just reset the valve gaps to .004 and .005 in (.1mm / .12mm).
Still not firing though...URGH!
There is extra sounds coming out of the carb now - like it is burping when trying to turn over.
I put the air filter hose and air box back onto the carb too..
I tried spraying into the intake also - still nothing...
Took out the spark plug and felt for air pressure. It still wanted to suck my finger in, but it was much more forceful - tried blowing it out more forceful too...
....Not sure what else to try....
Off topic - I found a part (electrical) that is flat and has one connection on one end, it is also ribbed - not sure what that is for? I could not find anywhere to plug it in?
Any additional suggestions in helping me get this beast started would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Doh! I set the valves to .04/.05mm... (.0015/.002in) - too small gap I guess... will adjust today.
Not sure if this is a.cause for concern, but when I took the valve cover off yesterday, I found a very small metal shaving in the cover...
One more thing....not seeing any fuel on the plug...may be valve related?
Thanks!

...after nearly all day working on the scooter, still no luck...
I removed the carb and cleaned it all out pretty good. It really wasn't that bad in there.
I re-gapped the spark plug - and it definitely has spark. I even shocked myself on accident.
I also re-gapped the valves .04 intake and .05 exhaust.
Has a new petcock, fuel filter, and fuel lines like I mentioned earlier.
It does not even sputter after spraying carb cleaner directly into the carb on the air intake side at WOT.
I'm racking my brains over this - its either electrical or fuel related somehow??
I've drained the battery 3 times now trying to get it started. Its probably something really simple (hopefully) that I am overlooking...
Its not the kill switch either, it wont even turn over with the switch off..
Oh - one thing to mention is that I checked the compression by taking the plug out and putting my finger where the plug goes - it wanted to suck my finger into the engine.... Isn't it supposed to try and blow it out?
Thanks~!

Hello,
I have a GY6 Jonway 150cc.
Installed new petcock, fuel lines, and spark plug tonight. I also drained the old gas and put in some new stuff.
I bought the scooter used and the guy said it sat a while... has about 2700 miles.
There is spark, but its not even trying to start. I even sprayed in some carb cleaner into the intake and tried to start but still nothing.
I have not yet cleaned out the carb, which I will probably do tomorrow. I also read that checking and adjusting the valves could help.
Anything else I should try? Could it be a vacuum hose? I wish I had a diagram of how the hoses are supposed to be connected. There is a black petcock next to my fuel petcock and has a small hose that is not connected and a long hose that is not connected.
Also has a charcoal filter that has 3 hoses coming in on top and 2 connections on the bottom, but nothing is connected to the bottom 2 connections.
Thanks!

Cool - thanks for those suggestions as well!
I already cleaned the carb out so hopefully that will be good for a little while.
The scooter even smells brand new when its running - only let it idle for about a minute or so....
It needs a new rear brake cable, and I think thats the reason for the brake light staying on (another issue I found).
The previous owner changed the oil, I checked it out and it looks brand new.
I did get a brand new NGK installed (C7HSA) and it fires nice. I did not change the gap on it, so maybe it came pre-gapped.
Ordered some replacement parts off eBay tonight - should be on the road in the next few days!

Cool - thanks for the suggestion on giving it a onceover to check for loose stuff.
I got a sweet deal on that thing, and it only has 320 miles on it - its really not even broke in yet, but it sat so long I have to replace some stuff.
It is missing some screws, like ones for the battery cover, so I will have to find some that fit.
