Thanks Alley! Sounds like a shady mechanic to me...will stay away from that place
I am not removing the piston, so at this time im not worried about the ring position. I am going to replace the gasket and see if that is the fix... most likely is.
What size you think.i will need - 58mm?

What is that picture of? I see its a cylinder...but not downloading on my phone.
Is it a gauge to measure the cylinder?

Also, do I need to measure and see what size gasket I will need - or will any gy6 150cc 157QMJ head gasket work?

Ah, so you are saying I should check and see if it could possibly be warped?

Good question... who knows what the mechanic did to the scoot for the previous owner. The receipts he gave to me with the scoot from all the work performed when he owned it were over $1300 of parts and labor!
The mechanic must have put a bad head gasket on it.
All the work that the previous owner paid for: 5/3/12- piston piston rings new battery
6/25/12- remaufactured cylinder head and gasket kit (engine tear down)
8/11/12- new battery (warranty) headlight wiring harness starter coil
Looks like I just have to spend another $10 or so hopefully for this fix...

It appears that I have found the cause of my oil leak and probably the compression issues as well? Should I even worry about changing out the cylinder and head - everything looks brand new inside... The guy I bought the scooter from gave me the receipts and everything had been replaced already. I'm not sure how this gasket broke like this? Maybe it was just a cheap gasket? Is this causing my compression issues and the reason for it not starting you think? Thanks! ND

I took off all the body panels tonight as well as the plastic engine shroud. The oil leak appears to be coming from before and after the exhaust port so it looks like I may have two bad gaskets... Not to mention the loss of compression which may be from the piston rings. I got a good price on a top end replacement, so I'm just going to do that and see what happens.

I have 2 rear shocks on mine...
It probably has stock weights - whatever that is... Doesn't using less weights just make the engine rev higher and reach top speed faster?
I will try replacing the head, piston, rings and gasket(s) while its in the scoot...
Anyone know a good place and price for this rebuild kit?
Hopefully my valves are OK and I wont need those as well...
Thanks!

hmmm...
I thought that lining up the 2 holes on the timing chain wheel with the engine casing was TDC.. The "t" mark on my flywheel was way off...

Correct - it is 150cc
I looked at the BBk but is it really worth it? I would probably need to make other mods as well right?
I would like to try and avoid having to drop the engine if possible...
Thanks!

The scooter has about 3400 miles on it...
Is the plastic shroud a pain to remove?
I have adjusted the valves already, and I changed the oil too.... The oil that is leaking out looks newer. It just drips down when its being cranked over.

It's a little hard to tell with engine case on ... What it looks like it's coming from the muffler outlet

...lets just say it was at zero - or next to zero...
I put some oil in the plug hole as was suggested and it "seemed" to get better...but the pressure dissipated after a little bit.
Tried the finger test and its not coming close to blowing my finger off - definitely nowhere near 100psi or so.
It also leaks oil every time I crank it over - could it be just the head gasket?
Thanks!

Hello,
Some of you may have seen the issues I have been having with my new scooter...
It has come down to the compression as to the reason why it is not starting up.
Replacing the top end does not seem that hard. I have watched some videos and found some step by step instruction in how to replace the piston and head etc...
Has anyone on this forum tried to replace the piston and or head?
I have found some websites that sell the rebuild kits..any reputable stores?
...I'm not sure if I should go with JUST a piston and ring kit - or a kit that includes the head as well as the valves and gaskets (rebuilding everything) within the kit I have seen them on eBay for $80 or so...
Thanks!
Nathan

Urgh...
I have come to the realization that there is no compression. I put some oil in the plug hole and it jumped up, but now I can totally cover the plug hole and keep it on there while cranking it over. The force is no way near enough to blow my finger off - also reading near zero on the compression tester...
It is also leaking oil, which is not a good sign...
I tried starting it a few times, and I can hear it ever so slightly trying - I can even smell exhaust when it "pings" occasionally, but that is about it.
So.... what do I now need to correct this?
An engine rebuild kit?? Looks like I may be able to get one for under $80...
Thanks!
