Neither is a scooter in places where there's winter, 'gull. Like right now when the drizzly-rain from all day has now frozen on the streets. I'm not sure I want to go out on four wheels tom, let alone just two.
But just 'cause something isn't a necessity doesn't make it not-macho.

shoulder shrug
(sure fly, try to make nice now. Still not invited to my party. Not that there is any party. Although I do have a bottle of pretty nice tasting muscato, so maybe that plus an unloaded hatchwagon plus a fire in the no-longer-clean fireplace constitutes a party?)

If I lived at a lake, I'd own a jet ski. Seems like it would be rather like a water-scooter.
But I'm not sure I have any desire to try snowmobiling.
Since I'm not very macho, that must make snowmobiles machoier than jet skis.

bad officiating (at least with that recovery of the Chiefs. How else could the football swerve if it didn't touch the guy?) (seriously fly? You're off my party list now. ) (and re: the wood, probably both. The first fire was with a Price Chopper bundle, which while wrapped in plastic was still snowed. The real stuff was indeed sitting outside. And fairly freshly cut. But when you want a fire, you don't always have the luxury of waiting for your logs to season and age)

scooter swerved!
(thank you, fly. And I did roast 'mallows. But either I need to relearn how to set logs, or the wood's not old enough. 'Cause I remember Dad having some good roaring fires, even with wood from the pile outside the house. But last night's wouldn't stay going without the gas on. And tonight's with REAL wood did stay going, but also stayed a small fire. But then, it was sitting outside--it's from an extended stay hotel's grounds. The groundsman put an ad on Craig's List--$50 for a truckload, you fetch. I wrote and asked how much for a hatchback-full. $20. He helped me load, and load up we did! He was rather impressed with how much we fit into my car's back end. And I was a bit surprised when I got off work tonight that all my windows were totally fogged up inside. I guess cut wood breathes?) (I now have some logs sitting inside to dry and warm up. Hopefully that'll make a diff.)

unstable fire
(really, it didn't matter what the last word was, I was using fire regardless. I just got my chimneys cleaned. And bought overpriced bundles of wood from the grocery store. But by golly, I shall have the first fire ever in my own house, the first one since we moved here almost 20 years ago, the first one since I don't remember when the last one was at the old house. I am SO looking forward to nice fires in my fireplaces)

I hadn't thought of the two pairs like that, Leo. I think you're right. Lots of abuse of the smaller by the bigger, but also affection there too.
I'm gonna have to Google both Hales and see what else they were in.
