Gotta go with Alan Hale. Probably 'cause I've never really enjoyed any Laurel & Hardy, but I did enjoy Gilligan's Island.

Great pair to match up... The Skipper and Gilligan are very much a modern (?) counterpart to Laurel and Hardy... I'm old enough to enjoy BOTH, but even at 72, young enough to identify more with the Skipper... And am a big fan of his Dad, Allen Hale Sr. Jr. was surely a chip off the old block!
Gotta go with Allen Hale Sr. by a small margin!

I hadn't thought of the two pairs like that, Leo. I think you're right. Lots of abuse of the smaller by the bigger, but also affection there too.
I'm gonna have to Google both Hales and see what else they were in.

I'm gonna have to Google both Hales and see what else they were in. Kat, Allen Hale SENIOR was in all sorts of movies... JUNIOR looks like his TWIN only younger... LOL! Senior was a main character in "Action in the North Atlantic" a true adventure movie about the Liberty Ship "SS Sea Witch". My Dad went to the South Pacific on that same ship in WWII and it survived horrific storms and enemy attacks... He loved that ship, and we watched that movie many times together in the 1950's... I think Senior also played "Little John" in the Errol Flynn "Robin Hood" film... He was all over the silver screen. Good old fashioned acting without all the perversion and foul language that seems "necessary" today. Ride safe! Leo
