So I've been off the scooter for the last week or so because of the NJ snow, and decided to take a ride this morning. I'm 5 or 6 miles from the house and I hear a noise coming from the variator area. Not grinding but a sound that sounded to me like what a frayed belt would sound like hitting the plastic housing. I turned around and drove about a mile home and then rev rev rev, little crawl, rev rev - no movement. rev rev reve - standing still. I pushed it off to a side street and it pushed very easily, so I assume the belt broke. Its original at or about 10,000 real miles. I assume the belt is dead but I didn't pull apart yet. could be the clutch too?
Anyway I am really pissed so i start to push it home and a cop pulls up - won't let me push it on the local road. too dangerous. So i'm on the phone with Geico and after 45 minutes they can't find anyone who will come and get me. So I start to push it again and the same cops come up behind me!!! this time he tells me i get it towed or impounded - my choice. The cop called a tow and the guy was really nice. Told me no one will come out in rotten weather for a scooter, and gets so pissed at his brother towers that he doesn't even write up the tow. 4 miles for free. For as mad as I was at the police (even though he didn't want me to get hit) I am left feeling great about people. the things we learn through scooters.

I don't mind the freeway too much because of the speed -- my 260 gets up to 65 ok and I just chug along in the right lane. I start to wet my pants, however, when the wind picks up or when I go over a long bridge - at just over 350 pounds for the bike (and with a large GIVI windscreen) I get buffeted so hard at times that I feel like i'm close to being toppled over altogether. It's so frightening to me now that there is one stretch on the Garden State Parkway in NJ (the Raritan Bridge if you know the area) that I just get off the highway an exit before the bridge and detour via the local road and get back on the highway later. While I fear being hurt, I'm also confident that I'd be too embarrassed to tell anyone that I crashed because I was blown down.

I got an email from BMS today that now through the end of january they are selling all body panels on all models for $10. I confirmed, for example, that the $120 faring I shattered on my Vog 260 (their TBX 260) when I hit the deer can be had for $10. If you're not familiar with BMS, they sell many versions of common chinese scoots, the panels for which should be (??) interchangeable. Here's the site. Happy shopping! www.bmsmotorparts.com

The initial question was changed and now my first answer looks foolish. I hate that.
The easiest thing to do if you want to comment on an old thread is to copy the thead's url and put it in your question/comment with an explanatory reference.

Yes and no. The old scootdawg.com lost its moderators, and then the whole site was (taken, appropriated, stolen, copied - choose your word - I like stolen) by someone who created the "new" scootdawg.net. Much terribleness ensued as people debated whether that was a theft of intellectual property, a breach of proboards rules and/or bad taste. The old scootdawg was then "closed" by proboards and is now a read only forum. This is a new board that I would say is in the spirit of the old scootdawg, but again, scootdawg does exist in a less-active incarnation under the .net.

SylvreKat - I never thought of scanning sheet music. I play the trombone and ukulele and have TONS of sheet music that is often not where it is supposed to be when I want it. What a great idea. Thanks for posting.

I am approaching 11,000 miles on my beloved Vog 260 (Xingyue xy260t-4). As much as I enjoy this scooter, when I get some excess cash together I'd like to pick up a one of the new Sym RV 200s, which seem to get more horsepower out of a 200cc carbureted engine than I get from a 257cc. alliancepowersports.com/models/rv.html

I have been off the scoot for the last few days since we got our little snow with lots of residual ice here in the NYC area. I went back to the bike today because the roads are clear, but wouldn't you know that I went down on a patch of ice at the base of my driveway? Rest of the ride (at 21 degrees) was fine. Yet more body damage to my poor scoot.

I'm glad someone else just responded because it gives me another chance to admire this one. You did a really great job to make this one stand out from the pack.

Just googleling the bike comes up with a Reflex type clone, the MC-250 (that's the one with the Honda 244). If so, you should have a 13" disc on the back, and just from what I've read on the old site, the fuse block on this happens to be under the seat. Odd that wheel though.

I was in the city yesterday and saw this guy on a Ninja style motorcycle pull up parallel to the curb, lean the bike over on the side stand and then pivot his bike on the side stand degrees and let it back down on the wheels such that he was now parked perpendicular to the curb. I thought that was a smooth move, but then I also thought that given the "chineesium" that my scoot is made of I could almost guarantee that the side stand would snap as soon as I tried it. Has anyone experimented with such a technique??

Not willing to admit that I left manhattan for NJ, I am in South Orange NJ but a mere 20 miles west of the city.
