Not sure why they seem to have stopped selling my Vog 260, which for a while was everywhere. Another basic carbed 257 that meets your needs for local travels and highway jaunts while looking good doing it. The TBX-260 (the BMS version) is still around but now is only sold as EFI so doesn't fit your categories.

After I hit a deer a few years ago I glued the front of the scoot back together with Weldon16. Worked like a charm and has really held up well. A great looking fix from 10 feet away.

cyborg - my friends have a sense of humor, but I'm considered a "master mechanic" in my circle because I venture to make engine repairs on my own scoot. I once changed my car battery and the neighborhood kids all gathered around because they had never seen under a car hood. Meanwhile, the scoot continues to ride as well as it ever has.

cyborg -- I couldn't agree with you more. That is the puzzle. All the posts will help me find out where all this oil is burning, but the lingering question is why didn't I seize up. I checked the dipstick after the oil change and it is spot on, no extra hidden oil.

JerryScript - this is a Linhai clone, and here are the expanded drawings. roketa.com/product/product_support.jsp?cateID=2610&sonCateID=0&proID=33907The airbox is drawing F9, and you see there is nothing connected to the air filter. The vent, as I understand it, is shown in drawing "Engine Assembly (04)" and is the unnumbered part just to the left of the rear axle numbered 29-12. I changed the plug very recently because of a damaged end and broken boot. It looked just as it should. Very, very strange.

hillbillybob - I completely agree with you so I am at a loss. I put the full 1.4 liters in and it was not overflowing. From what I understand you only need a very short time to seize up but I just took it out for another spin and have plenty of power and speed. I'm going to start checking the oil weekly and I'll see how it goes. tvnacman - John - The way this scoot works is that the air filter is far away from the carb and connected by about 2 feet of rigid tube so nothing is burning up there.

Last time I changed my oil it appeared to me that there was less than usual in the dump tub. I changed the oil today, 1,550 miles later, and of the 1.4 liters that the engine takes, I don't think there was a shot glass worth of waste oil. My first thought was oh no, I've seized the engine, but its been running great and is running great after the oil change too. I have no oil leaks, and my exhaust is clear, so although I assume I'm burning all the oil, I don't see it. Anyway, I'm guessing I damaged the rings somewhere along the way?? I'm open to opinions. If I damaged the engine, other than burning oil I'm not seeing it in operation.
One moral of the story is to remember to keep checking your oil between changes. I used to but I got lazy because I never needed any extra - until now!!!

beenriding Here is the vid I used - the guy doesn't abuse the rim so much as the first vid and and he gives a good tip about cutting off the ties once the tire is mounted - use the tire groove.

I found this exchange on a Kymco board that might be useful:
Can you recommend weights. I'm interested in reducing my highway rpms. I run 65 to 70+ mph. I don't care if it reduces the acceleration. Btw, I average 55 mpg - that's with the tallest givi windshield and largest givi trunk / top case (I had to make an adapter out of wood). Stock windshield I got 58 to 60. I find high speed on the highway hurts the most but that is live in San Diego.
-Paul 2005 GV 250 w/ 10K mi.
Paul, after all my testing the Dr. Pulley Slider Weights at 18 grams are the best compromise, and it will drop the rpm to 7000 rpm at 70-75 mph. If you have standard roller weights you will see an improvement. You can go to 20 g Dr. Pulley weights for a bit less rpm "in the middle" but you will loose acceleration. Your gas mileage depends on that big windshield that is a barn door to push, and yes, I loose also mph and mpg when I have it on it in winter.

It was time to change the rear tire yesterday, and after getting tired of paying more than the price of the tire to have it mounted I tried this method. I needed to put my fat to good use pushing down towards the end, but I got the tire on in less than 10 minutes. I've done a 13" tire with tire irons before and I found it was virtually impossible, not to mention distorted the bead such that it was hard to get it to sit. No such problem with this method.
I should also note that i put the rim on four pieces of scrap wood so as not to rest it on the brake disc.
If anyone is concerned about the price of the ties, I got a pack of 10 24" ties at Harbor Freight for $1.69. I used 8 for this project. Happy changing!!!
