yep, sounds like your wires couldn't handle the load and burnt to a crisp. i took the plastic off my scoot today. couldn't find any markings so i'm not 100% sure what gauge wire but i think the battery wires are 8 or 10 gauge. i went to the store and bought 12 gauge earlier and i'm not even going to attempt to use that. good luck fixing your scoot. electrical issues are new to me but i'm guessing you will have the same problem again if you fix it with 12 gauge wire. i think i'm going to use 8.
edit: actually i think they might be closer to 6. i'm going to take a small piece with me when i go back to the store. i'll let you know when i figure out what gauge wire is on my scoot.

wire gauge?

scoot is completely dead now. couldn't get it started last night. not really sure how to tackle this project, guess i will remove plastic and start with the electric starter wires and then move on to the stator. i don't have the supplies so just gonna inspect and then find a ride or make the long 3 mile walk. hope to get it running before dark but i really don't know what i'm doing, lol. electricity is still a mystery to me.

how many mm can the stroke be extended on a stock GY6 150cc, without having to add spacers/risers? If I recall there's either 2, or 2.5mm.... thought you need spacer for all... or perhaps just extra gaskets. i've read 3mm stroker is the most you can go without installing a larger chain. here is a good thread that might help you. itistheride.boards.net/thread/5207/stroker-crank-project?page=1

I'm not an electrical guru but I'd like to see you get your scooter fixed. Here's a chart of wire sizes by amperage. Try to figure out, perhaps by googling, or looking on ebay, how many amps the things you are wiring need. The bigger the better. Too big is okay. Too small can be dangerous. i looked earlier but didn't find the answer. i'll research some more. About a week ago I finished my project of upgrading to an 11-pole stator and R/R. It appeared 16 gauge was the factory standard for the wires. However, I went with a forurm member's advice and used 18 gauge wire for my high output stator wires. thx. do you mean 14 gauge? from the little research i did earlier i thought the lower number the more amps it can handle, or am i misinformed?

wire gauge?

i've been struggling to fix my scooter for a few weeks. seems like every time i take it apart i find new problems and i still haven't solved the original issue. recently the scooter became impossible to tune. found an air leak, fixed that but it didn't solve my problem. replaced the ignition coil and spark plug. also cleaned carb and changed to a smaller jet (old plug was a bit dark). no use, still same symptoms.
well, for months my scoot has symptoms of a weak/dead battery but if i let off the starter for a second then it will start perfectly fine. didn't realize i might have loose connections or burnt wires until today. found one of tvnacman's old posts about burnt wires. after reading that i believe my starting issue has caused problems to other wires giving me a weak and/or sporadic spark.
i don't want to order a whole new wire harness so i'm wondering what gauge wire i should buy and can i use the same gauge to replace any/all bad wires i find? is the battery wire 16 gauge? can i use 16 gauge on everything?

it's the terrorist list you really want to avoid. you have zero rights if they put you on that list. just viewing a flagged website can get you on that list.

just now saw this... that pic would concern me a little. if you haven't already changed the jets then i would a.s.a.p. What part the ground? from that angle it looks like the tip (ground, electrode. whatever it's called) melted off. appears shorter than it should be

Is this what you variator looked like ? . I've destroyed three Koso's and two stock variators before i found the issue. I was pretty certain it was a clutch issue ,but because I also replaced all the tranny bearings the same time I replaced parts on the clutch , I'm not sure exactly what was causing the issue . after the v-slides break you have metal on metal contact, I'm surprised you had metal on metal damage even on the guides that did not have the broken v-slides. Actually I think it was 2 Koso's and three stock variators I destroyed. yeah, only mine looks much worse. i'll have to inspect the v-slides again but i can say that 2 of them were still on the variator. perhaps one side was worn through and i may just not have noticed. once i saw the damaged metal i didn't look any further.

I will be changing mine out here early this week, once my belt, rollers, and guides come in the mail--- making a total of 5 guides I have. It's one of those things (the guides) to where there isn't much middle ground--- they're either broke or they aren't. There's been a few times I've checked them to where only half of a "v" guide was on the back plate. I've damaged at least 2 variators from metal to metal contact. the thing i really don't understand is 2 of the guides seemed to be fine but the variator appears to had metal on metal contact on all 3. oh well, going back to stock for now.

i been having issues with my cvt also and just opened it up today. i thought my clutch was the problem. got it off but it didn't have any noticeable issue. i wasn't going to bother taking the clutch apart today, i had a new one to install. i did notice a huge worn spot on my belt. i guess since it was having problems disengaging on idle it was flapping around and hitting the bottom of the cover.
took my Koso variator off to install a used spare belt. as i was cleaning up my variator i noticed one of the plastic guides missing. OK, no big deal i have a few from my stock variator.... well, now i'm wondering why would one fall out. on closer inspection the thin piece of metal those guides slide on was seriously damaged. all 3 were worn down so bad my performance variator is now trash.
i'll post a pic tomorrow if i didn't explain that well enough. anyhow, as geh has said, it's likely something caused that belt to break so closely inspect everything before you put the cover back on.

my belts look identical to geh. i'm thinking your shredded belt is a fake.

You have been taking off and reinstalling the belt yes? Do you remember if you possibly put the belt on in the reverse direction from when it was first installed? If you ever put it in reverse it will unwind the thread inside the belt. Once you wear it one direction, always wear it that direction. It is concerning that your belt popped from what looked like brand new the day before. Even if it was running hot I would think it would wear fast and get loose before it just popped without any burn marks or anything. Looks unwound to me, but that's just me. interesting, i've never heard of this. is that for real? i have 2 old belts, one with 6,000km and another with 4,000km. i'm installing a new clutch this weekend and was planning to replace the belt with the old 4,000km one since my current belt has about 5,900km. i'm sorta hoping his belt shredded because his clutch needs a gorilla to open and not cause he put it on backwards. really didn't know that was even possible and sorry but a bit skeptical. guess i will know when my belt snaps.
