I drilled out screws on old carb to see what jet was there it was a 75 so I put it in place of the 78 that had come in the new one.doing that helped a lot although it's odd that the new one wouldn't run lean enough the 78 considering I'm getting much more air too because I put the adj.carb and air pod on as a pair.i still believe I can get a better top end performance by going abit more lean or if not that by getting another 75 and step drilling up to 76 and even 77.im not sure just how sensitive it is by just changing setup by only a thousandth at a time.i may be wrong but I'm thinking I can still go just a little more lean on main to increase rpm on topend.i feel pretty good on being right that I needed to lean new carb up instead of the other way.i wanted to ask if the slow spd needle is an air needle instead of a fuel type.it seems that I richened mix at idle by turning clockwise cause before I did so the eng tended to burp and quit if I didn't get past idle deeper on into the intermediate or main jet end.Are these carbs considered three stage?idle, intermediate, and of course wide open stage.

The carb is supposed to be the same size as the original.18 millimeter I was told.only other thing I've done is put a better air filter system on it.an air filter pod instead of the big box.i adjusted the needle under the top cap up from the center increment all way to top one after I first went dwn it and it improved top end performance but caused an off idle hesitation.so I've decided to go bk to center on needle and change main jet.

Sorry to waste your time with a stupid question! It's kinda obvious where the starter and Bendix are located.it seems like as long as I have the tools and am not doing an overhaul on the lower end that these scooters are pretty simple if a man is mechanically inclined.although I sure am glad to be able to come to you any questions..thanks again!!

I thought from the start that this sounds like a sticky Bendix. and from your response maybe I'm right.you say the Bendix is located in the upper right side of variator? Will I need a gasket?are yu talking about removing the belt cover assy.to get access to Bendix.you can see Ive not worked on many scooters and don't have manual yet because I'm not sure exactly how to get to Bendix.the starter spins plenty of gusto because when it does try to engage I can tell by the sound it makes that the cranking amps.seem very strong.i think if I dont get this taken care of quickly that I'm going to damage the flywheel.thats how strong the whipping of the starter sounds!this assy.makes me think of the starter design of the 60 degree vee 150 horse evinrudes.i used to work on.they had a starter motor that ran a geared assy.tgat actually turned flywheel

I've bought a new taotao thunder fifty and have idle problems especially within the first 15mins of operation.after elec.choke shuts off the eng will slowly fade and quit unless I continue to jockey the throttle before it completely quits running.i wonder if I can drill out the plug and get access to adjust fuel/air mixture.i also have a problem while running 3/4 throttle to complete w.o.t.at full throttle eng flattens out unless I back off to close to 3/4 throttle.i don't know if it's lean or too rich causing this.i wonder if I can adjust air fuel mix for the wide open position.or do yu have suggestions?? The eng.is crisp on takeoff and midrange but fades at w.o.t.
