The 2020 W800 msrp is $9200. Scrambler will be priced around that. - I'm better off finding an older KZ440 to 650 twin and giving it a scrambler treatment myself (except the high exhaust - I can't weld). I can't remember if the 650s were shaft drive or not. Another great choice of old-school ride to use would be the old Yamaha 650 4-stroke twin. VERY much reminiscent of the Triumph Bonneville! They have nearly a cult-following however, and bring a pretty high price...

We'll see how they price it. I like the "no passengers" layout with the short seat and lack of heat shields on the mufflers. I expect that to change on the production models. I fully agree! It's SO "old-school" I just thought it was from the past... (like the marvelous old Kawasaki 650 non-unit-construction bike) It really does look like THAT era (1962 or so). 800cc is no toy... Engine just doesn't look that big in the pic, but I can definitely see a market for this one! Not to mention it would be great "bones" for a modern bobber!I should have clicked the link! Getting old... turned 73 yesterday and feel every day of it... LOL!

Wow!
"How Brit can ya git?"
Looks like a prototype from the SIXTIES... Reminds me of my old BSA Hornet 650. Very cool, and very retro. Right down to the expansion-chamber pipe! I'd ride one!

Betty and I do miss Doug...
I did the graphics for the original ScootDawg, as well as the original Scooter Rebels and ItIsTheRide. I truly enjoyed working with Doug on the banners and graphics. We always seemed to be on the same page. The Scooter Rebels ended up very much in tune with 50-150 Chinese rides and Doug wanted the new ItIsTheRide site to appeal to a wide variety of enthusiasts. That's why my banner design featured a larger scooter at Doug's request... He envisioned the site to appeal to all types of 2 and 3-wheel rides and ATV's, boats, whatever (including big bikes).
Just before this forum debut, the Missus and I had the pleasure of having dinner with Doug when he visited our town of Grapevine. What a gentleman. He especially enjoyed reminiscing about my crazy youthful adventures, especially my "Flying Squirrel" and her neutral-drop, no-clutch, no clothes sub-11 second run on "Old Blue" at Oswego Dragway. Whew, were things done differently back then or what?
These days, the scooter forums (fora?) seem somewhat stagnant... The great Trump economy and affordable gas certainly has slowed interest in scoots. The availability of "real motorcycles" like the Honda Rebel for less than a quality 250 scoot hasn't helped either. The whole world however DOES still ride scooters, so I doubt they will ever die-out here in the USA.
Old age has taken its toll on Betty and I too... Strokes, too many meds... too little money... LOL! I still haven't gotten the old "Mouse" running since she died last November. Don't know if I ever will. Taking care of the Wife is a full-time labor of love, leaving little time to mess with fixing the scoot, or riding it. It is what it is, and we live with it.
Life is short at best... Much TOO short in Doug's case. My sweet Betty is 87 and I turn 73 next Tuesday. Old Minnie Mouse may be dormant right now, but she's still a favorite "hotel" for our feral-cat friends. Our big cat, "PT" passed on a year back at 17, and our last kitty, "Inky" passed away a few months back, also at 17 and we recently took in a pair of little yellow-tiger-striped kittens and they are in love with us and we're in love with them... 37 years of marriage and we've never been without a cat or two... or ten, or eighteen or twenty...
So here's to Doug, JR and all who worked to keep this forum a friendly, no-bullying site, respectful and informative to the newest novice, and the seasoned biker.
Ride safe, and keep it friendly. Life's too short to spend it fussing. We all are closer to that final ride than we think...

Well, it's cool...
Don't think it'll ever replace the real thing... LOL!

Great encouraging post!
Have a bone! I still like Chinese scoots, but it's GREAT to have a source of professionals to fix 'em!

I just tried to open the Scooter Rebels site and it shows a wallpaper of "Tinypic". Nothing opens for the site.
Anybody know what happened?

On the surface, I'd say Frank Sinatra. However, Fred M. played ONE bad villain role ONCE and his family was so hurt when viewing the premier, he NEVER again played an evil character.
He cared more about what his Wife and Kids thought of his image and he passed up numerous high-paid roles so as not to offend them.
So... He gets my vote, even though I'm a big "Old Blue-Eyes" fan!

I'll agree with flyangler… electrified barbed-wire!
Electrified razor-wire REALLY works... Especially with land-mines waiting for those who make it over the fence... LOL!

I'm still waiting for that "SOMETIME", chopperguy. I still watch Pink Panther cartoons on weekend mornings on one of the obscure antenna channels. Hoo-HAA... Yeah, there's a little "Peter Pan" in most of us... My falling-apart coffee table still has 1950's model airplane magazines on it that I still enjoy perusing late at night!

Tennessee Tuxedo... Just a fan of those really stupid old cartoons. I'm old enough to have watched them originally on our 17" Sentinel black n' white TV... LOL!
There were a bunch! King Leonardo, Tooter Turtle, Peter Potamus, Deputy Dawg, Augie Doggy n' Doggy Daddy, Huckleberry Hound, Quick-Draw McGraw n'Babalooey, Grape-Ape, George of the Jungle, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Boris n' Natasha Badenov… Mr. Peabody's Time Machine... And of course, The FLINTSTONES... Not to mention the Disney toons, and the hilarious Warner Bros. creatures... The ROADRUNNER... Now HE was MACHO! I know there were even more, but these are the ones my old mind still recalls.
As a little nipper (like 55 years ago) I thought Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble were a pretty macho take-off on Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton of the Honeymooners! Boris and Natasha were pretty macho too. Many of these were from the prolific minds of Hanna/Barbera but there were others... "Clutch Cargo" was pretty macho... Static art characters with human mouths. Creepy, but innovative in pre-computer times. I have no idea what studio created those weird ones, but we kids loved 'em.
Then came the SIXTIES and I discovered the joys of Harley Davidson and gravitated from the TV to the garage to build "Old Blue"... After THAT, I discovered GIRLS. Ah, well, ya' gotta grow up SOMETIME!
Ride safe, and stay cool!

No contest... concrete overshoes!
One can live a long time in leg-irons (albeit not so comfortably). But you're only gonna live "swimming with the fishes" for as long as you can hold your breath. A truly grisly way to cash in your chips, but definitely macho!

Wheelbender6,
I think you're right about the trucks and the new 'Vette... Those pickups really are amazing, but pricey!
Yeah, the days of the 400 cid sub-200 hp motors are in the past... New technology is producing two and even three horsepower per cubic inch without a blower... That performance was not even dreamed of in race cars a mere two decades ago. Tuner kids are building little 4-bangers with more power than monster V8's of my youth!
My little 3,600 pound Honda V6 (3 liters, or about 180 cid with 260hp) is MUCH faster 0-60 AND top-end than any muscle car I drove in the sixties... even with the AC on... LOL! And does it sipping gas at 25 mpg highway, and 20 city! I've now driven it three years and am still amazed at the performance!
Makes me wonder just what the Japanese makers could do with old-school 500 cid displacement V8 design!
Ride safe!
