You have probably heard by now that the 2020 Vette will have the engine mounted behind the driver. Chevy has built several mid-engine prototypes since the first middy in 1964, but it is finally coming to production. -Does this put the Corvette on par with Ferraris and Lamborghinis? Probably not, but the base price of the Vette will be below 60 grand. -I have never driven a mid-engined car. My Corvette days ended in the 1990s. -I think I still prefer a front engine car with a long, low hood. www.motor1.com/news/258428/mid-engined-corvette-everything-we-know/

As expected in a 'Vette, it's mighty sharp!
If GM and Chevy did their homework, it MIGHT well be in the league with the Italian super-cars... No reason for it not to be.
That said, if it will do 0-60 in two seconds, and top out over 200 its $60K price tag will make it a "no-brainer"... 16-year-old tuner kids will be buying them with pocket-change from their self-employed pharmaceutical sales... LOL! And guys who only DREAMED of a super-car will afford one on any executive salary... Even a blue-collar guy might swing one if he can hide it from his Wife...
A lot depends on the performance, but it's actually CHEAPER than many high-end PICK-UP-TRUCKS! Chevy MAY have a winner here in the class with the early 'Vettes that started the whole genre!
We shall see...
Of course, if it indeed WILL go like Lambo, dealers will likely do the old Plymouth Prowler/PT Cruiser scheme, putting the car on the lot with the 60-grand sticker crossed out, and "Bids starting at $100K accepted".
There just ain't no free lunch... LOL!
If it turns out to be a boat-anchor with weak performance (I really hope not) it will still sell just on looks at that "giveaway" price. Seriously, local Redneck boys here often drive Silverados, Fords and Rams sporting $70K+++ window-stickers!

The high dollar pick up trucks can do amazing things. Nomadic construction workers tow their RV trailers to live near the site until the project ends.
I don't think the 2020 Corvette will disappoint anybody when it comes to performance. Chevy will never go back to producing cruisers like my old 185 hp Corvette. A lot of four bangers make that much power now without a turbo.

Wheelbender6,
I think you're right about the trucks and the new 'Vette... Those pickups really are amazing, but pricey!
Yeah, the days of the 400 cid sub-200 hp motors are in the past... New technology is producing two and even three horsepower per cubic inch without a blower... That performance was not even dreamed of in race cars a mere two decades ago. Tuner kids are building little 4-bangers with more power than monster V8's of my youth!
My little 3,600 pound Honda V6 (3 liters, or about 180 cid with 260hp) is MUCH faster 0-60 AND top-end than any muscle car I drove in the sixties... even with the AC on... LOL! And does it sipping gas at 25 mpg highway, and 20 city! I've now driven it three years and am still amazed at the performance!
Makes me wonder just what the Japanese makers could do with old-school 500 cid displacement V8 design!
Ride safe!

The Toyotas racing NASCAR have racked up plenty of wins. The Toyota racing engine is loosely based on a pushrod limousine engine.
