So here we are It needs some work for sure. He says it's got a dead battery but the horn and brake lights work so I'm thinking bad solonoid and the spark boot is janky so that has to be replaced. Someone had the bright idea to remove the turn signals so I have to deal with that sometime. The shock seems a little too squishy. Could just be my weight. With all its flaws I am looking forward to fixing it up I do have the side panels.

The 12 guage was my dad's. It was just a hardware store shotgun. I'll venture to guess it hadn't been fired since the 60's. He wasn't a gun guy and neither am I. I do frail a mean banjo and this one was a long neck pete seeger style harmony. So it was cheap but still cool. I have other banjos -3 that I know of, I haven't checked in a while. I figured why not do some trading.

In January I was bored with my tao tao since I replaced the engine and thought I needed a project. I traded some things (a banjo and a 12 guage, which is ironic since I live in an urban area) for a xingyue ita 150. That gigantic scooter has been nothing but a headache for me so I put an ad on CL to see if someone wanted to trade projects. I got a response and tomorrow I'm ridding myself of the annoying world of the mysterious gy6b and getting a tiny, little, nonvariated Pop gun known as the Honda Spree.
From there I have 3 options:
Fix it up, ride it stock and appreciate it for what it is at 25mph
Kit it, ride it and enjoy it at 35mph or so (I'm a lardass)
Fix it up, sell it along with my tao tao and get a honda elite or something
All options are doable. I am excited about Japanese quality, but can it haul my supersized American backside?
I'm 5'11" and 235lbs will I look ridiculous on such a tiny scoot?
I'll post pictures tomorrow

I had a similar problem. With a B motor ugg it's no fun just a lot of head scratching futile interweb sourcing and reengineering And at the end of it all I got a standard gy6 150 It's much better to work on I hear ya. I'm trading it to a guy for a honda spree. I figure I'll kit it, up the gearing and get a good pipe for it. I'll pop around on all that Japanese 2 stroke goodness or sell it and get a standard 150. But if the spree works out and I don't look too silly on a tiny scooter, I may keep it.

I thought it was grounded but I guess it wasn't. The next day I secured it better.

I was futzing with my xingyue ita 150 today. (See my other posts for details on this project scoot)and it kicked over with starter fluid! Hurrah! Then it blew a fuse. Boo Hiss
So I've got a fuel issue and an electical gremlin.
There is a bare green wire near the battery ground wire. I assume I just ground this to the frame or something? Or am I off on this assumption
At any rate, I'm counting today as a win

New engines are cheap, cheaper than buying a new scooter. The basic 150cc engines can have different quirks (like your head bolt pattern, rocker arms, ignition), but they all have the same motor mounts, exhaust, intake, etc and can be swapped easily. Note you'll have to keep your original ignition system (the stuff behind the flywheel) This one is an oddball. I found a replacement head but now the exhaust sticks out at a 45 degree angle. My donor engine is a long case but still too short to be a drop in solution. In the world of B cases there is no standard I have discovered. And considering they don't manufacturer this particular style of scooter and all but abandoned the design, I have my work cut out for me. Rare is great for steaks and books but not for scooters.

Flo and Eddie from the turtles went on to join The Mothers of Invention. They are legit.

I was fortunate enough to catch one of his monthly shows in St. Louis. No funeral arrangements have been announced yet. Rumour has it it's because Keith Richards and Eric Clapton want to come in town for it and they trying to schedule it. I may try to use my influence as a member of the media to attend.

Time will prove John Lennon influenced more people. Someday Russia and Comunisim as a philosophy are long forgotten but I like to think the music of John Lennon will live forever.
Though he was pretty much creatively bankrupt by 1968. And had mommy issues And treated women terribly And Paul was the real talent in the band

I find this amusing. The engine shroud has a little peep hole so you can see the xingyue logo. Just in case you were worried it wasn't Chinese
