Chinese--- ( In fact ) A locomotive company made my 50cc....... Ironically, I already knew my little 50cc was a freight train -- And the manufacture so, that was a good test. Neat little resource site !!!!!! If the Vin tag has been removed from the engine....... The frame # doesn't always match the engine # unfortunately...... That's a different issue though. THANK YOU for the Post !!!!!!!

Most of the time people only post/ review negative experiences.......
I find it GREAT when people share a Positive interaction!!!!!!!
For every bad review there are a few hundred transactions without any issues..... That's how a business grows.
Scrappy has become one of the best resources for scooter parts and knowledge JMHO.

My first thought was a vacuume leak until you said it's smoking....... Are any fluids leaking?
Where is the smoke coming from? Out of the exhaust or more like the engine area under the seat?
Maybe other folks can chime in and help out...... but, I must say if the carb is clean, a new one is probably not going to help.... What CDI did you order? An orange/ racing CDI will most likely make it harder to start before finding out the root issue....

Most anyone can purchase "off the shelf" parts and build an engine.....
The real cost comes with installation and skill level,
I do hope this becomes a reliable daily driver at a decent price.....
PLEASE keep us updated as the final product, It should be a REALLY nice ride....... I meant no disrespect!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or expect some negotiation on the price point Is it possible the "TUBE" not reconnected was in fact the Odometer/Speedo Puck connection? That would make sense IMO. Is there a wire of some type inside that Tube? What's going on with the tube now? Is It just hanging out, Or, was it removed? Heck, knowing the top speed could be a selling point.... Anyways, GOOD LUCK!!!!! Keep us updated and Have fun out there!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Apology in advance for this, I LOVE the fact a VAG Reader is something a person can buy......... Sorry again, I can Offer no real diagnostic help here, just a silly juvenile DIY mindset.... I wish you the best in getting your wife to blow.... A horn..... In the car... Seems I can't help myself Sorry Again. Honestly, A whole new setup maybe the best solution..... As long as the power is not draining somewhere, A small button on the dash, just for blowing the horn maybe the cheapest option, You did say Two horns exist on the Passat, Is it possible to only use one? The Tone should not really matter if it works? ( just a thought ) Although I'm sure you already thought of that I must admit, I did NOT read all advice given on this thread. Did you by chance talk/read/e-mail other VW owners about this issue?

The intake port has a "double tapered" cross section, as its diameter gets thinner in the middle section, forcing the flow to accelerate, before gradually expanding to meet the exact valve seat size. Playing around with small variations in intake port diameter and inclination, as well as valve seat angles, results in what Gurney calls the "optimized taper configuration" and some astonishing output results. The first prototype engine to be built will be the liquid-cooled tandem twin (pictured above), with a displacement of 110 cubic inches (1,800 cc), two overhead camshafts and four valve heads. According to the simulations that Gurney has run, the MC4S engine with a standard straight intake port will produce 141 hp (105 kW), while the output of the very same engine with the special porting system skyrocketed to 262 hp (195.4 kW); that’d be an percent increase, from a naturally aspirated engine burning normal pump fuel. According to the patent text, this is simply the result of delivering the air deeply and efficiently into the bore to enable a more efficient combustion process. Just sayn......

Indeed, Very Cool Technology Design
Just a better engineered internal combustion engine though---
Hear me out, V-tech is basicly just a complicated valve lash setting..... ( over simplifying I know )
What I mean by Innovation is,
Instead of replacing a Carb with EFI, something like a Jet engine needs to be invented.......
The Jet/Turbine or even Rotary, was the most recent Innovative way to make an engine.....
I'm not smart enough to design my own but, In the year 2015 will still have the basic internal combustion engine doing things more efficiently, Not a Brand New Power Plant ( so to speak ), Just a redesign of what already exists...
Heck, Even Electric motors are just more efficient versions of what was created 150 years ago.......
If someone was to come up with a whole new platform, It could be a Billion dollar idea.......
YES, This is a VERY cool Internal Combustion Engine Design, ( No doubt about that ) How about a Totally new Idea all together? I don't mean fuel but, Instead a different propulsion device entirely.......
Like I said this is a VERY COOL DESIGN!!!!!! I hope to see it in the market.....
