Hmmm, getting back to the original topic, i did forget one thing, gotta do something about this seat. The scooter stops, but i don't, which isn't good, and i keep forgetting to do something about it between rides. Any suggestions out there?

Okay, so I've had the Grand Dink for a few weeks now. As you guys remember when I got this scooter I bought it from an older lady in Scottsdale who had it painted to resemble her beloved parrot. Ah, Luci of Luci's Joyrides, the shop i bought my Kymco from, i believe they went out of business, or is my memory that bad? Yeah, that paint job could use some work. I do not make or answer calls when I am driving unless it is a real bonafide emergency period and not I am late for work or I forgot the milk, etc. If I need to call in late due to a traffic accident or blocked roadway that can be done while stuck unable to move and if I got up late the time to call is before starting the motor or at the latest while it warms up. Never mind driving - texters will walk into you on the sidewalk, in malls and at the office. The answer is harsh penalties for texting while driving and making an example of people who engage in the practice or mandate that cell phones can not text or make calls when moving except to dial 911. I have taken calls while driving, but my attention is still focused on the road, making for some odd chats, and me once dropping the phone because driving needed my attention. And never text, the most i would do is glance at the phone to see if an alert icon was from something important, and pull over if it was, ditto for involved phone calls.

Some systems work on magnetism, some based on weight, new systems work on motion detection. Some older systems also have a strobe light detector that can be activated by flashing your high-beams, but I think those are pretty rare now days due to public abuse. Some people have strapped magnets to the bottom of their scooters and reported success. I have heavy doubts that magnets will work, even if an induction loop can be effected by a magnet, i doubt you'd find one strong enough. An electromagnet might work, and it would definitely effect the older magnetism systems, but those and weight ones i think are mostly gone. Actually at the light where its the biggest issue, even triggering the light would only help so much as the lights are purely sensor activated, and very hyperactive. I used to work in that area which is mostly industrial, and semis typically wound up running the lights because they switched so quickly. javarod, ramblinman, JerryScript, JoeyBee, scootdude, dmartin95, scooter For the red lights, try this. It's practically free and the worse thing that will happen is it won't work: To recap: Take a 12" piece of wire, form it into a circle, tie the metal ends together so it makes one conductor. Place as low to the ground on the scooter as possible, in the same orientation it would be if it were lying on the ground. Tape it on, tie wrap it on, whatever. Then try it out and tell us if it works. I don't know if it needs to be solid or braided. I get the impression it may not matter. Interesting, i'm figuring some study is in order.

Only problem i have right now is traffic lights, has anyone figured out how to trigger sensor based lights on a scooter? this site was very helpful for me: modernvespa.com/forum/wiki-trafficsignalsoccasionally i can't find the correct spot to trigger a light and if there isn't another vehicle around then i will do a michigan left (either turn right or go straight and then do a U-turn). I wait a reasonable time, make sure its clear, and then go. Or in the case of the light on the way home, i use the bicycle exit, and slide down to a surface street without a traffic light. Still, i would like a better solution. Hmmm, need to find out how these things work, i do have training in house wiring, industrial motor controls and even a little electronics training, i can prolly make something assuming its possible.

Ok y'all, figured i'd finally write a thread about the scooter and how its going, so lets introduce you to The Scooter of War: A 2015 Bintelli Havoc 50cc that i bought at on 21 Jan after my truck died. Looks good, can't say i looked all that closely, but then who does when buying a new anything? Looked, left, researched, returned, checked the plastics (fit, finish and sound). $1909 out the door with tax, prep and all that. A little steep, but that price also includes three Bintelli cable locks, two small combination and one thicker keyed one, along with two helmets, a 3/4 for me (black with a big dragonfly because its a weird helmet) and a brain bucket for my Were. Financed it as i'm flat broke as always, and road it home, first time on two wheels in over five years. Stopped at Cycle Gear for gloves, then it was off for home. Took a few days before weather and my ability to get up on time allowed me to ride to work, but it all went pretty well, all things considered. Considering that i was wearing my regular winter coat which isn't all that great against wind, gloves that weren't thick enough, and a helmet without a face shield or goggles. Hmm, is it me, or is the instrument panel slightly crooked to the left? And wasn't i supposed to get some kind of road service card with the bike? Then it rained that night, which made for a fun ride home. Speaking of the ride home, a couple miles from work, and i hear a clunk... My Bintelli keychain broke, i hope that isn't a sign... Well, home, got time for some easy reading, where's that manual. Ok, decent enough looking, though it would've been nice to see a Havoc on the cover, but that's minor. Where to find your VIN... Ummm, that pic is just a black box... Heck, black and white pics, in this day and age? Well, onwards, a specifications chart... that doesn't have a Havoc 50cc listed. Also the next page continues the charts, but without headers, that's not real helpful. Decently thorough manual at least, though it suffers a bit from Engrish (y'all need an editor/writer, i've experience in both, plus a bit in magazine distribution/publishing knowledge). Not as good as the Kymco i had way back when, but not bad, and i get the impression, its better than you typically see with a Chinese built scooter. A couple runs after that related to the scooter tag, and then nothing until last night. Oh, did pick up a better set of gloves, all leather, no mesh and longer, that'll keep my hands warm. Also got a face shield, wish it flipped up, but that's no big deal. Also got a really good coat, Charles River Apparel Men's Signal Hi-Vis Waterproof Jacket in blue. To work we go today (well, last night) with about a quarter tank of gas. Two miles out from work i stopped and filled up. According to Fuelly my go to site for tracking fuel mileage, i got 82.2 MPG so far. One thing of note is how its behaving. Low on fuel, starts easily, but struggles to make even 35MPH. Full tank, hard to start (have to give it some gas), but will hit 40MPH on flat ground. Only problem i have right now is traffic lights, has anyone figured out how to trigger sensor based lights on a scooter? Well, we'll see what the future holds.

Upgrade one at a time. If you start throwing a bunch of modifications on at once, if something doesn't "jive" you will have a of a time determining what is causing the problem. I would say change the muffler then work on tuning the carburetor by jetting. Once the carb is in a happy place experiment with rollers to find what gives you the desired RPMs, low end and top end speed. Heavier for slower take off but higher top end, lighter for faster take off but longer time to max speed. Actually it should be really easy on this scoot. Its a rather interesting beastie, it was sold for one year, and is odd that its a two stroke as Elites are typically four stroke. There were four versions, Canada (sporty), US (economical), P (30MPH limited moped), and Iowa (25MPH limited moped). To derestrict it, i just need to swap in the US standard parts, so it should be an easy job. But the budget doesn't allow buying all the parts at once, so its doing it a piece at a time, or simply collect all the pieces and do it in one shot, depending on which is best for the scooter.

Ok, been a bit busy, but as you noticed i changed the title. Thanks to looking at the title, i found out that i was wrong about a couple details. Thanks to Motor Scooter Guide i learned more about it. The ride home topped out at about 30MPH and considering that its a 'P' model that means it was never desrestricted. Interesting, apparently i'll need to change the rollers, muffler and jet to fix that, but do i need to do it all at once, or can i just upgrade bit by bit?

Depending on the jurisdiction flight can force the officer to respond by policy to attempt to shoot you in the arm or leg with no real personal choice in the matter. Actually its illegal for them to shoot a fleeing suspect per an Supreme Court ruling. This came up with the Ferguson mess because it was found out that the county prosecutor's office gave the Grand Jury an outdated version of the law, replacing it at the last minute without explaining to them the difference. Basically unless the person represents a danger to the public or police, its illegal to shoot at them. Good luck getting a conviction against the cops. Cops seem to be above the law in every case against them that I've seen. I hope justice prevails in this case and these cops go to prison where they belong. Its amazing that the Grand Jury found them guilty, the statistics on Grand Juries doesn't offer much hope, its something like 99% conviction rate except for cops where its around 1%. ... [/quote] Bigger problem is the unions which'll protect them members regardless of their guilt. These officers likely will return to the force even after this, complete with back pay, the union'll see to that. Scariest thing involving the police lately is the news out of NYC where they want to change resisting arrest to a felony. Considering that they use a charge of resisting arrest as a catch all when they have no other reason to arrest you, you can see the problem with that.

Hmmmm,,when it loses power back off the throttle a we bit and see if the power comes back on...if it does that means its not getting enough fuel there in the top,,could be carb related,,if it still bogs then it could be too much fuel. A lot of times the fuel will foam up in the bowl on these if the float level is not just right causing issues with fuel air mix. Could even be an ignition problem...does it pull hard uphill under load? If so,,the ignition should be fine.... Pulls fine up to a point, then loses some power, and all you need to do is back off to get it back. I agree that its likely too much fuel, considering that the scooter seems to be revving a bit at idle (it'll roll forward on its own), i'm thinking the throttle is set wrong or the idle is. Riding it home came with no surprises, power is steady aside from the noticeable dip if you go too far on the throttle, though it loses some speed on hills, but what do you expect? Which 1984 Elite 80cc or 50cc? 50cc AFAIK, though i have to double check. Shouldn't make a real difference though should it? I'm thinking right now in terms of general 2 stroke maintenance, is there any real difference between the two motors beyond the amount of horsepower and specific parts used (carb, spark plug)? Sounds like the rollers or sliders in your variator are too light. You could try increasing the weight by a gram or two to increase the top of throttle. They could be worn, but should presumably be stock as i there's no signs that this was ever modded in any way Mmmm, thanks, some of that i had kinda forgotten/failed to mention, basic CVT service is definitely a good idea, minimally the belt and rollers should big check. As to oil change, its a two stroke, self changing as it were.

While there is some risk in it, have you looked at uship.com? The obvious risk is that they basically broker to anyone that wants to do the work, but it is an option. You might also check Craigslist or advertise on their, since a 50cc could be transported with a pick up or van. As mentioned, you might look into an LTL company like R&S, ABF (the ABQ drivers are great guys), or Old Dominion.

Ok, just got home half hour ago from picking up an 87 Honda Elite for my Were which means i won't have to share mine . Needs a little body work, and the battery is dead, but it fires up eagerly on the kick start. That said, it is spitting out a bit of blue smoke, not all that surprising because its a two stroke, and an old one, but should it? Its eager off the line, perhaps too eager, the idle seems a bit high and it noticeably loses power as i near the top of the throttle. Anything i should look at or replace considering the age and unknown maintenance history ? We will need to get a box for this thing, its got basically no storage space to speak of. Can you still get a newspaper rack or a basket for the front? EDIT: OK, found the title, memory sucks, is actually an 87, wondered why i was having trouble finding info online •DOH!!•
