hi all, this is a great idea. I can't find anything to click on to add myself though. Likely because I am logged in on a ms surface rt tab, not a pc and this site is buggy on it. So for info ......I am in boston, ma and I have a bunch of scooters. Just last week I added an Italjet formula air 50 2t which I have to get running and a Suzuki Burgman 400 which runs great but I can't use it till I get a tire so I can reg it. My current most used is my 1985 Honda Elite 250 which like the Burgy is liquid cooled. The Honda was the first maxi scooter to be sold in the USA. It is a Honda Rebel motorcycle under a scooter body. Sneaky fast leaving traffic behind in the city and passing cars on the highway all day. I go on group rides a lot. A couple weeks ago a 60 mile ride 2up on the honda. I am probably acquiring a honda metropolitan soon too. Its in pieces right now. I always bbk my 50's. I want to sell a bunch more and cut down to just 2. A solid 50 and the Burgy. I just sold a gy6 clone with a bbk and an Aprilia Scarabeo 50. My Piaggio Fly 50 is solid but I am hoping to like the Italjet better. I hope to find some locals on this mapping thing. i don't recall how i added myself to the map. i need to edit my location but will be moving again in a few weeks so may as well wait. So as some may know my friend recently crashed my ride and I had to rebuild it and ever since have been having even more issues than usual. Today I started off being woken up at 7am by a friend who needed help with his scooter. I was like ugh... zzzz.... Then he called me again at 9 and I woke up and was like yeah okay come over well do what we can.
He needed a new belt, I gave him my spare. He bought new variator weights, just in time, the old ones are ground down and have flat spots, every single one of them, all the way to the core. His carb was horribly out of tune, I popped that cap off the tuning screw and found that thing was at a quarter turn out! Like holy shiz batman! He got a new speedo cable to replace the old one which was bent and broken at the tip. I also gave him my blue racing CDI, since I only used it for testing because I got it the same time I got the casoli which is better. We did all that work, cleaned everything too, and he gained almost 10mph top end, 12mph increase in hill climbing, overall faster to get tot he top end. He paid me $100 for all the help and told me about his friend who was trying to offload 2 scooters for $150. Both Jonway Agility's, the same one I sort of have (frankenstien now really), or rather started with.
So I called the guy and heard he had one agility for parts only, lots of stuff was stripped. Cool. He also had another one he used to ride a lot till it stopped starting then he got a motorcycle and ditched the scoot. Sounds good so far for the scooter mechanic type.
I hastily fashioned a kit I'd like to call my own revival kit. I grabbed my spare carb, grabbed some fuel line and an inline fuel filter. Spent 20 minute looking for a bottle that would screw into a fuel petcock, gave up, made a gravity fed petcock out of a bottle cap, filled a bottle, turned it upside down, popped a hole in the tip with the dremel and stuck some duct tape over it for now. I then grabbed all of my spare electrical components needed to start and run a scoot without major work(solenoid, CDI, battery, plug, coil, some wiring). I put everything in my backpack, grabbed my tool bag from my seat bucket in my scoot, grabbed my can of gasoline, and went over to the guy who was selling the scoot.
So this guy believed very much that I would not be able to ride that thing home, let alone start it up. He had taken a lot of time to replace a lot of things and never found the issue that made it unable to start. At this point it had been sitting for over a year. Lines bad, carb bad, everything a mess. I swapped the carb with my revival kit, duct taped the make fashion fuel tank to the inside of the bucket, and it started right up! I was like, okay here's $100, I don't have the truck or the other $50 to grab the parts scoot but I will this weekend. The guy was like WOW you made it work and its been sitting so long too!
I rode that thing home, 6 miles, without any issue. When I got home I looked at my fuel tank and found I was so lucky I had literally put in JUST ENOUGH to make it home. There was only gas left in the filter, and carb, but none in my makeshift tank! I made it all the way home on a rigged revival kit!!! I only put 6 ounces of gasoline in my makeshift tank which has a capacity of 12 ounces. Now I have 2 working scooters and will soon have a third for parts or possibly a third ride!!!!
If I had not known everything I know now from reading everyone's posts and reading up on how every single thing works I would have never known how to make that revival kit and ride home with an old scoot, which surprisingly only has 1030km on it!!!!! This was a find of a lifetime and only someone equipped with the knowledge I have from reading this forum and helping people would be able to do this. Now I will never be stuck unable to ride!

Hey lain , do u have a flywheel puller ? If not , you can use a steering wheel puller . that's what I have to do. I have a flywheel puller yes.

I have multiple scooters I am working on, that is why this is a different thread. This is a DC scooter, the other thread was for MY scooter which is AC. I am trying to install this new engine without cutting and rewiring everything, everything is in the scooter but the engine, it is DC powered, not AC. I would like to know if I need to switch the stator from the new engine or can I just plug the AC labeled stator into the DC wiring harness? I see... I would have to see pictures. The wires themselves don't care if they transmit AC or DC... As long as plugs and pins match and you use the 3 components I mentioned above, you "might" be able to do it the way ya want.... I didn't realize you was working on two scoots.... I thought you were going bonkers for a second because not more than a few minutes earlier you told me you needed AC If all stators output AC would I be able to just simply put the wires from the stator in the right places for the DC setup? Or would it be better to just swap to the old stator?

I got a new engine from ebay, not knowing it was AC fired beforehand and needing the DC fired setup now. The scooter is already wired for DC and has good working electrical parts and all. Can I simply swap the stator from the ebay engine to the dc stator from the old engine to do the conversion? Perhaps you should keep this in one thread so things don't get confusing. In the other thread you said you need everything A/C. The Harness I have is for an A/C setup. -------------- *To answer this current question, Yes if you meet the following requirements -- Stator/Flywheel
- Regulator/Rectifer
- CDI
If you have a D/C harness, and the three components I listed above, yes, you can use the D/C harness. You must use the matching/corresponding components: Stator-CDI-R/R (the three should be considered an assembly, instead of separate components)

On a side note; There's a million ways to "jury rig" when it comes to wiring and really you don't even always need to use GY6 specific parts... What I'm giving advice on is to keep it "stock". Oh yeah, something else I would need to know is about your current CDI... Is it DC or AC? If you can make one with all the right colored wires with a little extra quality than the chinese harnesses that would be more ideal. My scooter, the one in question, is entirely AC. The harness is completely stock besides the wire I added on the ignition to power the tachometer. I will take pics tomorrow. How much do you charge to make them?

If you want more reliability and more low end torque, I would try experimenting with variator weights first before going to the BBK. I've seen some really nice scoots that have a lot of power hidden and being wasted because of transmission errors the dealers made, liek putting a 2k clutch spring in a 50cc with only 5g variator weights, man did that thing run fast after changing to 1k clutch spring and 6g weights, it reached up to 45-50 and got to 25-30 fast.

First wire I tried to jump seemed to have solved the problem (FOR NOW) but I don't feel safe until I get a new harness.
I connected the black terminal on the coil to the yellow wire on my cdi and it fired right up no problems multiple times. I have had just about every electrical component replaced at least a couple times in the past couple years or so of owning the scoot, which is technically an entirely new scoot now made of old parts and new parts, only original parts left are the engine case and the crankshaft and the bearings.

What type of stator do you have? AC fired, I'm guessing ac and dc scoots have different wiring? Or just different from the stator to components? Reason I am asking is because I am also rebuilding another scooter on the side, it had a DC fired system and I received an AC fired stator in the new engine.

So my spark plug is fine, coil new and good, it starts sometimes and stalls out sometimes. More often than not. Moving around my wires seemed to help, but not a lot. It will start then not start next time or will stall out while running then not start. It seems like a lot of my wires are bad, they make noise and everything...
Anyone have a spare gy6 wiring harness they could let go for a reasonable price?

So I took apart the shocks, inspected all pieces, everything looks good except the oils seals are a little messed up and seem to be letting dirt in. I cleaned everything out put it all together, seemed good, no oil coming out at least. I plan to replace the oil seals asap or get new shocks. I then added half inch spacers I made out of CPVC pipe to the tops of the springs and put it all together and went for a ride.
It was like riding on air. There was so little vibration out of the front end and it responded very fast, it seemed to only bounce once before returning to riding height when hitting bumps. Much better than new!
I learned about the CPVC spacers from some old harley dude who used to work on shocks for bikes. He said do not use PVC because PVC will become soft from heat, CPVC withstands the heat and high pressure, as well as oil.

So I went riding in the rain yesterday. I kept stalling out because my filter became so full of water it was dripping. Also, when I say rain I mean the pouring rain that's hard to drive anything in, this is Boston of course.
I would stop, squeeze the water out of the filter then start back up fine, but then closer to the end of the trip (I stalled out a few times) I started hearing poping noises like as if I was running super rich then it stalled out even if I was revving... Now today a dry nice day it is popping and acting like it is going to stall. I do not like the feeling of wondering if I can make it to where I need to go or not so I am going to take the plug out and inspect it.
I am wondering, is it possible to foul a plug by running in the rain with a uni filter? I must try to clarify that the filter was dripping, soaking, fully absorbed water, was not passing air and was most likely causing the engine to suck in water when trying to pull air....
