Both were listed as AC CDI's and I'm pretty sure mine are AC.

So I ordered a couple aftermarket CDI's and coil wires for my 50 and 150 VIP scooters. Got them in and was all excited to install them.
Putting them on was easy. Starting wasn't. The 50cc wouldn't fire over at all. The 150 would fire but only after I got it started with the stock CDI and the enricher working. Then if I was quick, I could put on the aftermarket CDI and it'd fire and run like a top. Once I shut it off again though, it'd not fire again until I put the stock CDI back on and repeated the process.
I'm thinking that it needs more fuel, meaning that I'd need to take off the stock carbs that don't have fuel adjustment and put on aftermarket ones that do have the fuel adjustment.
Thoughts and tips?

Awesome info. I'll start looking around for a good set of pads for both scoots. Thanks everyone!

Good to know! I'll give it a try!! Do I get to that by simply removing the tire or do I have to go in from the tranny side?

I've had my new VIP 150cc for about a month now, have over 1200 km on it so far and love it.
I'm having a problem with the rear drum brake squealing when I'm stopping.
My girlfriends VIP 50cc does the same as well with only 500-600 km on it.
Both were bought brand new. Nothing done to either. They didn't squeal at first. It's developed over time.
Any ideas what the squeal is and what I can do about it?
Thanks for any and all advice.

I set mine to .004 both,,then check them every 2K km. or so,,last time I checked them they where still good..one was .003. What tolerance are you checking here? Not sure what to look for or where to measure that.

Now that I'm home and can pose this in a MUCH better way than on mobile..... Valve adjustment. I keep hearing about it. I've done plenty of it on SBC engines so I have a few questions for the knowledge on this forum. 1. Is it similar to adjusting the valves on a SBC? 2. How do you know it needs done? 3. What am I listening for/looking for while doing it? 4. How do you know it's done right? Any and all info is appreciated. I'm not incompetent when it comes to engines and mechanical things. I've built a few SBC engines before and done mainly machine maintenance for several years. I just want to learn more about these engines and before I dive in and REALLY screw something up. Thanks for the advice!

I'm plenty happy with the current speeds of both scooters. 50-55 is MORE than enough for me on a scooter lolol! Thanks for the advice!

Sooooooo I ordered and received 2 brand new Tao Tao Powermax scooters. One is a 150 and the other is the 50cc version. Broke them in today using a variation of the methods I was told about in this very thread. Here's hoping for many many miles to come.
I must say HOLY SMOKES those things are fast!!! The 150 EASILY pulls 60 with more throttle to go and the 50 hits 35-40 with ease! I am SUPER impressed with both but would like to find out what I can do to make the 50 more responsive.
It goes just fine starting out but takes a second or two to spool up and really kick the power in. I'm sure the variator is the first place that I need to start with this....my question is where do I start with the weights in the variator? Not needing a definitive answer, just a ballpark idea.
Thanks for the time!!

Luckily I live in a rural area. % of my riding is on mostly unused country roads that are thankfully paved. Break in should be a snap as its roughly 15-20 miles from the dealer to home depending on the route I take.

A good read for sure! I'll definitely give it a try! Worst case scenario, I replace the engine sooner than I want to lol
