so you added from the first frame common point? Now you need to go from the negative battery to the first frame common point. Just for the heck of it what is the battery voltage? Check both the old and the new. I have had batteries brand new from the box with bad cells.

Ive got another question. I bought a knock off uni. But its too fat(the diameter of the foam) its too think to fit in my frame. Is there a filter that fits? Or whats the best things to use as air intake tube? I could make something. I need this as a daily just tried to get rid of the air filter box. It was just always in the way. herethey fit on the carbs. There are cross members that might be in the way on some models. Then I have a shorter one that will clear. John

dump some fuel in the vac line and try to start it. sometimes that will get the fuel system primed and pulling vac to keep it going.

I have seen the ignition coil cause this problem. That would be my next suspect, if you have a spare try it . If you do not have a spare get one and try it.

Finger tight doesn't seal and could be causing the soot on the outside that you're referring to. If the plug isn't tight then exhaust will leak out around it meaning lost power. Not saying to lock it down with all your might, but a snugging will do just fine. The exhaust leak could lead to problems with the valves so a month ago may not mean anything depending on how bad the leak is. Doesn't cost anything to check em again. Spark plugs have crush washers, once you tighten it the crush washer is crushed and may not be able to be used again. John

check for spark, maybe a new spark plug, I don't believe in cleaning them. Recheck the valve lash. Fix the broken exhaust stud .
