I moved this Saferider because you weren't needing mechanical help but rather asking about the scooter in general. I thought more people could see it and respond here. I've not had any dealings with this scooter, sorry.

I'm not unhappy with how W8 works just don't like all the bugs in the system right now. There are some things that I like about 8 even better than 7 but I still prefer 7. Cool thing is I have two W7 download discs and if I get tired of the bugs I'll change it to 7. About the only thing that I didn't like about 7 in the early days was the IE crashes, be right in the middle of something and the old IE isn't responding junk! D8

I'll tell you from experience 7 is a lot easier and better at this point. I use 8 and have now since Jan. of this year. Yesterday I spent over 8 hours on a total re-boot of the system on my computer. Good thing is I back up my files on two external hard drives so that made it a lot easier. When one buys a new computer with the system on it they do not send you a program recovery disc. The good thing about yesterday is the Microsoft tech did as a courtesy download one for me and got a new product key, now I have one that I could even use to put 8 on another computer. The main thing wrong with the 8 system is they haven't got the bugs out of it and even the tech said they were working on them daily and they are snowed under resolving these issues. I use the installed defender fro my antivirus and it works well but here's a problem they are having world wide with this program and it's update errors. These two errors can cause major issues and they hit mine, 0x800106B and 0x80070490. These keep windows from updating, you can go to the troubleshooter and fix them but they return in just minutes of use. If Defender can't update it will quick scanning and shut down. This happened to me and since I do lots of work on the net the shut down that I didn't even know allowed two serious Trojans and one malware in, needless to say I had a mess. After 0ver 8 hours of work all is well and I'm expecting a call back this evening from Microsoft on fixing another error code and in the mean time I manually search for updates about every 6 hours. I'm about to get all my backed up stuff back where I want it and programs that don't work, I uninstall and re-stall them, just got done with re-installing my filezilla that Doug and I both use to upload files for this forum. I've also installed some of the better programs for 7 to this computer and override the ones on 8 I don't like ex. Adobe, the one on 8 is junk, they removed the plugins on the 8 version, I hate it. It takes getting used to but I'd rather set my head on fire and beat it out with a sledge hammer instead of using Vista, I actually threw a working computer with Vista on it in the dumpster because of it. I agree with the assessment on one good program, one bad one, maybe by the time I get used to 8 a good 9 will be here! JR

Fuel injected, water cooled and electric fuel pump with ECU, not sure you have a CDI but rather a TCI. Let me look the diagram over and it is not a AC type system. Also with a weak battery and when I say weak I mean as low as 11.5Vdc this scooter will not start or run worth a hoot.
Reason? It has a high pressure fuel pump for the injector system and since it has no kick starter and is a 3 phase charging system it's DC whether it's a CDI or TCI? These systems have to have steady and good voltage to run right, thus it starts better when jumped to your car battery.
Going to need to test the charging system when you get a new battery. The battery must hold 12.5Vdc + to run this engine correctly.

I never have a rattle problem but again I use sliders and they are by their design and material self lubricating.

I have heard of some of the larger scooters having a grease in variator. thanks for the reply doug...since your an admin around here, would you know of anywhere I could get more specific info on this issue ? im racking my brain to figure out why its there. the only thing I can think of is that it was a thinner substance at one time perhaps to lubricate the center crankshaft bushing of the variator, and in the 7k of service it has flung outwards and turned to a tar=like substance from the heat. either way its causing a problem for sure now. Since this is the linhai and I own two I'll tell you to clean out all the goo and leave it dry except for a small amount of grease on the center boss and a tiny touch on the side plate guides and this will allow the rollers to operate better and it to shift smoothly. The Chinese grease is like gum from the blue lagoon. Make sure the rollers are smooth and move in each track freely. My linhais are the 257/260 also and both had the bad grease in them. It not only makes the rollers gum up and shift poorly it oozes out in time and gets on your belt and causes more problems. The 300 linhai is identical except the bore. You'll also find that going to sliders makes it even better. I went to 12g sliders better take off and better top end and have over 12k on this scooter without any other variator issues. The other admin. JR

Typical response from one who either doesn't like to work on Chinese scooters or doesn't know how or both. Can you tell us what is going on with the scooter? We don't mind helping. ;D JR

I changed the first three letters of your thread title. Yes I know it seems like it's picky but we just got a warning from the web host the other day for offending posts and anything even insinuating profanity is against the forum and Proboards rules. . itistheride.boards.net/index.cgi?board=intro&action=display&thread=5Now on with your thread and I would do as you suggested and then see what happens. Thanks for your understanding. JR
