Anyone else having problems finding people to work on an Eton beamer 2 scooter? My mechanic said they cost more to work on then they are worth.

Typical response from one who either doesn't like to work on Chinese scooters or doesn't know how or both. Can you tell us what is going on with the scooter? We don't mind helping. ;D JR

Well nothing right now but he explained to me that i should ride it till it broke then just be done with it. I was wondering if this was a common mechanic situation and if other newbies should be aware of scooters that are hard to find people to work on.

chinese scooters are easy to work on parts are cheap & available , even if you dont have the know how theres people here that will help you.
when my stator went out a few years ago ( didnt know it was that when we started) i didnt even know how to use a multimeter, i was taught on line, found the problem and fixed it. sure it takes a bit longer when on line, but hey i cant afford the $75/hour most shops charge.

When mine arrived I nipped into the local mechanic to see whether or not he'd be happy to work on it. He said "yes" to Chinese scooters, but "no" to one particular brand of Chinese scooters (can't remember which) as he'd had major problems with them before, working on them for the council "wheels2work" scheme. To the tune of, doing a service, putting the bike back into the council container, then the bike being a non-runner by morning.
Some mechanics have just had bad experiences with certain bikes, and it generally gets blamed on them. You may be able to convince him to work for you, if you can get him to believe you're going to look after it. I'm sure he'll get fed up being blamed for a bad job, if the problem is the owner. Which is where all the "Chinese scooters are a " comments stem from.
Maybe try another mechanic, and dazzle him by asking all the right questions.

Chinese scooters don't have dealers like Japanese scooters. They're just different, with a different supply chain, and they're not a problem to work on if you take the time to understand them. The biggest bonus is that they're easy to fix and incredibly cheap to own and maintain. In this case, you're fortunate that Eton scooters have excellent support: www.go4itsales.ca/
